One key to get along well with people is to know when and how to say you are
sorry. Sometimes little comments or actions can hurt others. However, we failed to
see how our actions make others feel. In mostcases, if someone is hurt by something
you do or say, it is much better to apologize right away. That solvesthe small problem
and keeps it from getting bigger.
It is not easy to apologize. Many of us are ashamed or have too much pride.
Sometimes we do not know how to do it. Here are some tips that may make it easier
to say you are sorry:
- Take responsibility. The first step in apologizing is to admit yourself that you have
done something wrongand take responsibility for your action.
- Explain. It is important to let the person you hurt know that you didn't mean to do
harm. At the same time, you must show that you take your mistake seriously.
- Show your regret. Say that you are sorry or ashamed: I’m sorry. I am ashamed of
myself.
- Repair the damage. If you damaged someone’s property, offer to fix it. If the
damage is not so obvious, ask: what can I do to make it up to you? There may be
nothing you can do but the offer must be sincere. Another way to repair the damage is
to send a note or a small gift. Apologizing doesn’t mean that who “won” or who
“lost". It is a good way to keep a strong friendship.
36 . What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Getting information about when to repair the damage
B. Taking responsibility when you make a mistake
C. Giving advice on when and how to apologize

A. An apology sometimes makes you feel difficult to say.
B. Some people just do not know how to apologize.
C. We all know how to apologize but we don’t want to do.
D. Some people have too much pride to apologize.
39.What should you do when you do something that has hurt someone?
A. You should show that you admit doing the wrong thing and take responsibility for it.
B. Yon should not admit that it is your mistake.
C. You should let him or her know that you meant to do harm.

Man is a land animal, but he is also closely tied to the sea. Throughout history the sea has served
the need of man. The sea has provided man with food and a convenient way to travel to many parts
of the world. Today, nearly two thirds of the world’s population live within 80 km of the sea coast.
In the modern technological world, the sea offers many resources to help mankind survive.
Resources on land are beginning to be used up. The sea, however, still can be hoped to supply many
of man’s needs. The list of riches of the sea yet to be developed by man’s technology is impressive.
Oil and gas explorations have been carried out for nearly 30 years. A lot of valuable minerals exist
on the ocean floor ready to be mined.
Fish farming promises to be a good way to produce large quantities of food. The culture of fish
and shellfish is an ancient skill practiced in the past mainly by Oriental people.
Besides oil and gas, the sea may offer new sources of energy. Experts believe that the warm
temperature of the ocean can be used in a way similar to the steam in a steamship. Ocean currents
and waves offer possible use as a source of energy.
Technology is enabling man to explore ever more deeply under the sea. The development of
strong, new materials has made this possible.
The technology to harvest the sea continues to improve. Experts believe that by the year 2050s
the problems that prevent us from fully exploiting the food, minerals, and energy sources of the sea
will be largely solved.
