1. Describe the conditions in the Philippines before the outbreak of the
revolutions. What causes hurt the Filipinos most?
Ans: Before the Philippine Revolution, Filipino Society was subdivided into
social classification that were based on the economic status of a person.
The two main classes in the system where the highest people in social
scale were members of the Principilia, and the other class was the Masses.
The Spanish people belong to the Principilia classes. The Masses classes
included poor commoners, peasants, and laborers and only enjoyed a few
civil rights and privileges. What causes hurt most the Filipinos is the loss of
Philippine Culture.
2. Why and how the Katipunan discovered?
Ans: The Katipunan is a secret organization founded by Filipino patriots
Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa and others. At first,
membership in the Katipunan was only open to male Filipinos; later women
were accepted into the society. The Katipunan's existence was revealed to
the Spanish authorities after a member named Teodoro Patiño reveals the
Katipunan's illegal activities to his sister and to the Mother Portress of
Orphanage. The discovery led to the outbreak of Philippine Revolution.
3. What was the "Cry of Pugadlawin"? What did it signify?
Ans: Cry of Pugadlawin is when Andres Bonifacio and his men tore up
their cedulas, shouting Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. It signifies that they were
willing to fight to the bitter end by tearing up their cedulas to pieces as a
sign of their defiance and determination to rise against the Spaniards.
4. What was the Colonial Government's reaction to the outbreak of the
revolution? Was it justified?
Ans: The revolution had resulted to a statement between colonial
government and rebels.
5. What was the effect of Rizal's execution on the Filipino rebels?
Ans: The Philippine independence struggle turned more violent after
Rizal's death. Which is led first by Andres Bonifacio and later Emilio
Aguinaldo. Rizal's death filled the rebels with new determination, but the
Katipunan was becoming divided between supporters of Bonifacio, who
revealed himself to be an increasingly effective leader and its rising star,
Aguinaldo.
6. Explain why Bonifacio went to Cavite. Was he right going to Cavite?
Why? What trait of character did he show in going to Cavite?
Answer: Bonifacio was invited to Cavite province by rebel leaders to
mediate between them and unify their efforts.
I think Bonifacio isn't right in going to Cavite because at first, he was
stopped in going to Cavite but he refused. And when Bonifacio went to
Cavite, there were rumors subjected to him and there were anonymous
letters sent which told the people of Cavite not to idolize Bonifacio.
Bonifacio suspected the rumor-mongering to be the work of Magdalo leader
Daniela Tirona. He confronted Tirona, whose airy reply provoked Bonifacio
to such anger that he drew a gun and would have shot Tirona if others
have not intervened and he declared the results of Tejeros Convention as
null and void.
When Aguinaldo and Edilberto Evangelist went to receive Bonifacio at
Zapote, they were irritated with what they regarded as his attitude of
superiority. In his memoirs, Aguinaldo wrote that Bonifacio acted "as if he
were a king".
7. Why was the Tejeros Convention called? Did it succeed in unifying the
rebels?
Ans: The Tejeros Convention was called to discuss the defense of Cavite
against the Spaniards during the Philippine Revolution. They failed in
unifying the rebels.
8. What is the significance of Katipunan and the Philippine Revolution?
Ans: Significance of Katipunan. Bonifacio founded the "Kataastaasang
Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan" (KKK). The
Katipunan had a colorful beginnings. As a symbol of the member's loyalty,
they performed in the solemn rite of Sanduguan, wherein each are signed
his name with his own blood. It signifies how the members of Katipunan
goals to completely separate Philippines from Spain and to teach the
Filipinos good manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and how to
guard themselves against religious fanaticism and to encourage Filipinos to
help themselves and to defend the poor oppressed.
Philippine Revolution signifies as the only one that worked. The Spanish
period was marked by more than 200 revolts that failed due to lack of unity.
Bonifacio realizes that and used his considerable organization talent to
remedy that by establishing contacts and cells in other provinces, thus the
Katipunan was the first of its kind, first for Filipinos revolutionaries to see
beyond their own provinces and it worked.
