apartment?
(A) It’s fine. Jim will help me.
(B) I intend to leave this alone.
(C) If I train hard, I’ll be ready next year.

(C) I understand your point, but I disagree.
26. Statistically, you’re more likely to be hit by lightning than win the lottery.

W: Mr. Adams, please take the floor. I think you should start the board meeting.
M: Thank you, Ms. Johnson. Let me go ahead and say first that I am honored to have been
chosen as chairman. My first motion as chairman is to create a committee whose job is to
improve sales before September. In order to carry out that motion, I need a majority of you to
raise your hands in agreement.
W: Everyone here raised their hands. The motion is carried unanimously and will be implemented
tomorrow.
M: Thank you, everyone. Under no circumstances will I allow our profits to fall.
W: Hey, before you go home, I wanted to ask if you are doing anything really important this
weekend.
M: Well, my Jeremy is going to play in a basketball tournament, and I was going to be a good dad
and support him.
W: Hmm . . . I see. I was going to ask you if you could come in all day Saturday and for most of
Sunday morning. I just got off the phone with our client, and they said they need the project
done by Monday. You’ll get lots of overtime pay.
M: I’m pretty busy. Can you ask Roger to do it before I commit to anything?

Questions 47 through 49 refer to the following conversation.
W: It’s good to see you again, Mr. Nelson. I hope you didn’t have any trouble getting here. So, are
you looking to rent or buy?
M: I haven’t really made up my mind at this point. It depends on my new job. I don’t want to buy
and then have to relocate. Renting might make more sense.
W: Well, either way, we have some very good properties I’d like to show you.
M: Sure, but how about we hold off until my wife gets here? She knows a lot more about this sort
of thing than I do.
W: Wow, that new guy Johnson is really great. Where did the recruiter find him?
M: We held an open house not too long ago and invited a bunch of graduating college seniors to
attend. Looks like it paid off.
W: I’ll say! Did anyone else come on board? We need more good people.
M: Haven’t heard anything around the office, but I totally agree. We need quality employees.
W: I do have one concern though. New guys usually start off great, but some of them burn out
quickly.
M: Well, here’s hoping we get a few with some staying power. I’m tired of training a new person
every month.
Man A: What are we going to do about these errors that keep popping up on our app?
Woman: I’ve forwarded the user complaints to engineering already. They’re on top of it.
Man B: We need to fix this ASAP. We’re starting to get bad reviews and refund requests.
Man A: Tell me about it! Our average rating has already dropped to one star.
Man B: I know a little bit about code; I’m going to engineering to see if I can pitch in.
Woman: Yeah, they’re going to be undermanned. I’ll stay here and man the phones and answer
e-mails.
M: Well, remember when I said that Dynax was going to update their prices? Here’s the new
price list.
W: Oh, wow. The 1031a prices have gone down by almost 50%. We are going to be able to make
a fortune now.
M: Not so fast. The rep I talked to said they would be discontinuing that model later this year.
They will only be selling them until the end of the year.
W: In that case, we’d better transition to using the 1042b. That is actually going to force us to
have to raise prices.
M: Let me talk to some of our other vendors and see if I can shave off some costs elsewhere.
First, let me thank all of the members of the sales team for coming to this strategy session. Since
our numbers are down this month, I wanted to stop the bleeding and have a bit of a talk with
everyone. The main problem I see is that too many of you are assuming what your customers
can afford. I get it. It can feel like you’re being too pushy. But just because you wouldn’t spend
a certain amount of money, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t. We should be going into each sale
assuming the customer is a millionaire. Push the envelope and step out of your comfort zone.
Now let’s get fired up and meet our goals!

Questions 74 through 76 refer to the following speech.
They said we couldn’t get here, but here we are! They said someone with no experience and no
education couldn’t make it into office, but we proved them wrong! Today marks a new day for the
government and for this country. Today’s the day that you can start trusting your elected officials!
Your votes won’t be wasted––I hereby pledge to fulfill every single campaign promise I have
made. We will have fixed roads, safe bridges, and a tax system that works. There will be better
schools for our children and safer streets for all. Change is coming! You’ll see! You, the people,
know you can trust me.
Good evening listeners and thank you for tuning into “Soon to be Currency,” the weekly talk show
about how to transform your entrepreneurial ideas into sound businesses. My guests tonight are
Dr. Baron Gobel, inventor of the real time cholesterol monitor, and Sidney Camsen, founder of
Camsen Technologies. We’ll be talking about whom to go to to get your start-up funds, the best
way to present your idea or product to investors, and how to market it after it’s funded. Later, we’ll
be talking to callers live on the air and answering their questions. It should be an interesting show,
so please, do stick around.

This is your captain speaking. Welcome aboard TransWorld Airlines Flight 701 from San
Francisco to Chicago. I’m afraid our takeoff is going to be delayed at least forty-five minutes
due to heavy rain. Currently, all flights are grounded until the weather improves. If the delay
causes you to miss a connecting flight in Chicago, our ground crew there will help you make
other arrangements after we land. Please remain seated during the delay. Our flight attendants
will be passing out headphones, pillows, and blankets during the wait. We will also be giving
out refreshments, and newspapers and magazines are available at the front of each cabin. We
apologize for the inconvenience and will take to the air as soon as possible. Thank you.
Today I’m going to teach you the secret to incredible success in just three easy steps. Step
1: believe. Just believe. Believe in yourself, your potential, and your skills. Believe in your
business and believe in others. Believe that you can be successful. If you don’t believe, you
won’t get anywhere. Step 2: take risks. Put yourself out there. If you never try new ideas, you
won’t innovate, and if you don’t innovate, you’re dead, figuratively speaking. All the new up-and-
comers, the real go-getters, they took risks because they knew that you had to bet it all to win
it all, and look where they are now! Step 3: network, network, network! I say it thrice because
it is so important. If you do nothing else, do this. Network, network, network! Make meaningful
connections in school, on business trips, at parties; anywhere you can, really. Sometimes it’s
not what you know, but who you know. If you want to get your business off the ground, it pays,
literally, to be connected. Network, network, network!
Hi, I’m Peter Colbert with the Home Efficiency Network. Having an energy-efficient home will
not only help the environment, but it will also save you money! Although having energy-efficient
appliances certainly helps if you want to cut down on your power bill, you can also save big
by simply cultivating these helpful habits. First, only open your refrigerator when absolutely
necessary, and if you are going to store hot food inside, wait for it to cool before putting it away.
Next, if you use a washing machine, try to only do full loads of laundry, meaning you shouldn’t
wash just a few clothes at a time. Also, don’t use too much detergent. The more you use, the
more energy your washing machine will expend. Appliances such as your TV, computer, and
coffee maker use electricity whenever they’re plugged in, even if they’re turned off, so be sure
to unplug them after use. Finally, set your shower head to a low-flow setting if possible, as it will
save on your water bill. We hope these tips will help you cut those bills down to size.
They called him a wild card. They called him a loose cannon. They said he was a menace, not
just to the criminals he vowed to take down but also to the people around him. But they were
wrong. When society took away his badge and his gun, and his other secret gun, Max Remier
went into retirement. But when the city is ruled by a ruthless gang, only one man has what it takes
to stop them. Last time you saw him, he’d been dishonorably discharged for conduct unbecoming
of an officer and unnecessary brutality. But this time, no amount of brutality is too much to ensure
that justice is done. This summer, crime had better take a vacation because Sergeant Max
Remier is back, and even though he’s paired with an uptight rookie cop who wants to do things by
the book, this time, the only rule is that there are no rules. James Corn returns as Max Remier in
Kung-Futality Fustigation: The Bell Tolls for Part 3. You can buy a ticket for a seat in theaters near
you, but you’ll only need the edge!

Questions 95 through 97 refer to the following announcement and schedule.
Good afternoon, campers. We hope you’re enjoying your time at Camp Candy! Let’s see . . .
We’ve got an action-packed day for you today. In our first two classes of the day, we have some
racket sports: badminton and tennis. If that’s not cool enough for you, then come outside and try
your hand at some archery. Remember to spread on that sunscreen if you take part in an outdoor
activity. If you work up a sweat, then cool off in the pool afterward with a swimming lesson. Last,
if you’re feeling creative, then head on over to the art tent for some crafts. Oh, one more thing!
If it’s raining, your class will be moved indoors if there is an indoor option. This policy excludes
badminton, as its facilities are under maintenance. Thanks, campers, and have a good day!
Welcome to the Aldritch Vineyard Winery Tour. Before we begin the tasting, I’ll take everyone to
the main vineyard to discuss the growing season, vine maintenance procedures such as pruning
and tying, and harvesting techniques. Next, we’ll head to our on-site wine making facilities where
I’ll show you how our various award-winning wines are created and barreled. Afterward, we’ll visit
the cellar where we keep our French common oak and American white oak barrels. There we’ll
discuss the effects of ageing, temperature, and barrel type on wine flavor. Finally, we’ll taste three
of our award-winning wines at our in-house restaurant: our merlot reserve, our pinot noir, and our
cabernet franc ice wine, which we will pair with various kinds of cheese.
