Subject: Application for Psychological Well-being Officer / Research Assistant Position
Dear Members of the Hiring Committee,
I am interested in the position to serve as a Psychological Well-being Officer / Research
Assistant at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). My education in applied
psychology, education, and clinical practice and an unwavering conviction that psychological
well-being must be nurtured provide me with the luxury of anticipating to be able to contribute to
CUHK's world-class research and well-being programs in students' mental health.
I hold an MSc Applied Psychology from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, where I carried
out research on decision-making and cognitive bias—research which was subsequently published
in the Journal of Pakistan Behavioural Sciences (JPBS). In internship at Sheikh Zayed Medical
College and Hospital, I performed psychological tests, provided therapeutic intervention, and
aided in the treatment of trauma victims. The experience fine-tuned my clinical competence and
reminded me once again of the value of culturally sensitive care.
In addition to clinical practice, I am also a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Psychology,
teaching undergraduate students Abnormal Psychology and Psychological Assessment. I am also
conducting workshops in mental health awareness and academic guidance among undergraduate
students. All these are testament to CUHK's double mandate of research excellence and student
care.
I possess data analysis computer software including SPSS, R, and MATLAB, experimental
design, psychometrics, and qualitative research. I also possess training in Positive Psychology
(University of Pennsylvania) and Mental Health Psychosocial Support (WHO) so that I am
able to certify evidence-based interventions and global mental health standards.
With CUHK, I would like to be able to:
• Provide research assistance to faculty in research for manuscript preparation, literature
review, data collection, and statistical analysis;
• Management of student mental wellness programs, such as workshops, one-on-one
sessions, and outreach;
• Culturally responsive bridging intervention from practice to research.
CUHK's international reputation for leadership in conducting research in psychology and
community mental health practice provides me with a superb chance to forge my future
professional career. I would be honoured to work with your distinguished faculty members and
be an integral part of your department's endeavour.
Thank you for your time. My curriculum vitae and supporting information are attached here with
for your perusal with thanks. I would be delighted to discuss my qualifications with you at length
and would be more than pleased to meet to interview at your earliest convenience to suit your
schedule.
Sincerely,
Muhammad Asif
