ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Proposition Team

Prime Minister:

A pleasant day to all of us, ladies and gentlemen. Praised be Jesus and Mary!
I am Mary Claudette Lasaleta and I am the Prime Minister of the
affirmative side, and right now we stand here firmly with full support of the
resolution stating that artificial intelligence is a threat to Filipino jobs. To
define AI or Artificial intelligence, it is a technology that allows computers to
perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. This is due to how in
this generation, people tend to take advantage of AI and would use this as
their reliance. Our house believes that AI is a threat to Filipino jobs due to
the following key points and their evidences. First, job displacement across
industries. AI is replacing workers in key industries such as business process
outsourcing, manufacturing, and retail. An example of this are call centers
which can now be easily replaced because of AI. Like what I said earlier that
AI is a technology that allows computers to perform tasks that requires
human intelligence. If they use more of AI, then Filipinos can experience job
losses. Next, the reduced demand for low-skilled workers. Many Filipinos rely
on low-skilled jobs which can be easily replaced. Automated cashier systems,
self-checkout counters, and AI-driven logistics are diminishing the need for
manual labor in retail, food service, and transportation sectors. This limits
opportunities for workers with minimal educational qualifications, making it
harder for them to secure stable employment. Last, this can also affect the
freelancers and the creative community. Now that AI is arising, platforms like
CHATGPT, CiCi, DALL-E, and other AI related can easily produce music or
artwork at a lower cost effortlessly which reduces demand for human artists,
producers, writers, and designers. This puts many Filipino freelancers at a
risk of losing their income. These key points are according to Senator Bam
Aquino where he conducted and submitted a hearing. He filed Senate
Resolution No. 344 in 2017. Thank you.

Deputy:
While AI offers benefits such as efficiency and innovation, its rapid
advancement threatens Filipino jobs by automating tasks, reducing
opportunities for low-skilled workers, and widening economic inequality.
Without proper intervention, AI could lead to mass unemployment and social
instability in the Philippines. Let me be able to refute that AI is indeed a
threat especially when it comes to jobs. It gives influence to people where
they think that their efforts aren’t enough to put in because of AI. Companies
that adopt AI technology may tend to reduce demand for human workers. In
an effort to increase efficiency, some companies may turn to cheaper and
more efficient automation systems, resulting in a decline in traditional
employment. This is according to Senator Bam Aquino. If people tend to use
AI more, then what will happen in the future happening? Why use artificial
intelligence when we have our own intelligence? AI can also show negative
features and results and not only good nor advantages.

Whip:
Our winning point or state here is that artificial intelligence is indeed a threat
to Filipino jobs for it is feared that artificial intelligence technology will make
humans unemployed in the future. Yes, you may say that it can widen our
knowledge but we can instead share knowledge and ideas with what other
people think rather than relying on chatbots or other platforms. You may say
artificial intelligence can improve productivity and efficiency. You may say
that once we know how to use it, you can take advantage of its power and
benefits. Let me able to refute your following points for where artificial
intelligence can give false hopes and less chances for us to prove ourselves
especially for Filipino jobs because it can deduct income, reduce the number
of Filipino workers in any job, and it can pose a significant threat to Filipino
jobs as it replaces human labor, disrupts traditional industries, and widens
economic inequality. Thank you.

Opposition Team

Leader of Opposition:
A pleasant day to all of us, ladies and gentlemen. I am Mary Claudette
Lasaleta and I am the Leader of Opposition. To continue the motion, as
what you stated earlier that artificial intelligence is a threat to Filipino jobs
due to how people nowadays take it as an advantage and their reliance.
Well, what if AI can actually be a helping hand to us and that it can widen our
knowledge. So now, I must able to refute that AI can affect the creative
community because AI can actually widen the knowledge and creativity of
humans where they can get ideas from it.

Here are the following key points and their evidences. AI is not a threat to
Filipino jobs because it makes new jobs in growing industries. AI can help
companies or any other jobs to work faster and simpler. Example of this are
factories using robots need 15% more workers to manage machines. If
companies use AI, then they’ll hire more Filipinos to work with tech, not to
replace people. This is stated that by 2024, over 85, 000 job ads for roles like
“AI Trainer” appeared like coaching chatbots for call centers. Next, it can
enhance human productivity and create more opportunities. If AI used to
automate repetitive tasks, then humans can focus on more complex and
higher value work. This is according to OECD 2019 where it suggests AI can
complement human workers, improving efficiency. Laws protect workers
from job loss. The government’s 2023 AI law says companies must pay for
worker retraining. If companies follow these rules, then AI will create safer
and and better jobs. 320 new startups like AgriTech drones created jobs in
farming and tech in 2024.

Deputy:
Artificial intelligence is not a threat. It can give us more ideas and thoughts.
Artificial intelligence is not always a risk for jobs. People used to think that if
there is AI, it can lead to job loss but it’s the complete opposite. You say that
artificial intelligence gives off the negatives in the country specially to jobs
when AI is a big improvement in this generation. Data shows AI creates 4x
more jobs than it replaces. 210K new AI jobs vs. 52K lost old jobs, as of 2020-
2024. If AI is used to improve existing jobs, then it can actually create more
opportunities for Filipinos. For AI can automate tedious tasks, freeing up
workers to focus on more complex and creative work. So, what if AI is not a
threat for instead if we use it strategically, it can help the Philippines
compete in the global marketplace for AI can help businesses become more
efficient and innovative, making them more competitive?
Whip:
Good morning. To continue the motion, AI is not a threat to Filipino jobs
because it makes new jobs in growing industries. AI can help companies or
any other jobs to work faster and simpler. Artificial Intelligence is not a threat
to Filipino jobs. People thought machines = job loss. NOW: Data shows AI
creates 4x more jobs than it replaces (ex: 20k new AI jobs vs 52k lost old
jobs, 2020-2024).

AI is like upgrading from a bicycle to a car - Filipino just need to learn to

drive.

This quote means that AI a big improvement, like going from a bicycle to a
car. It says that instead of being scared of AI, Filipinos need to learn how to
use it, just like how you need to learn how to drive a car. Once you know how
to use it, you can take advantage of its power and benefits. Thank you.
PDA or Physical Display of Affection
Proposition Team

Prime Minister:
A pleasant day to all of us, ladies and gentlemen. Praised be Jesus and Mary!
I am Mary Claudette Lasaleta and I am the Prime Minister of the
affirmative side, and right now we stand here firmly with full support of the
resolution stating that regulating physical display of affection or PDA is
necessary to maintain social decorum, respect cultural values, and prevent
discomfort among the public. Let me be able to cite our following key points
and their evidences. Preserving Cultural and Moral Values. Many societies,
just like here in the Philippines uphold traditional values regarding public
behavior. Regulating PDA helps maintain cultural sensitivity and respect for
societal norms. Next, preventing Public Discomfort. Not everyone is
comfortable witnessing intimate displays of affection in public places such as
parks, schools, or public transportation. Regulating PDA ensures that public
spaces remain comfortable for all individuals, including children, elderly
people, and those with different cultural or personal beliefs. Last, Promoting
Proper Public Conduct Establishing guidelines for PDA promotes a sense of
discipline and propriety in society. While mild gestures such as holding hands
or hugging may be acceptable. Regulation helps define boundaries that
promote mutual respect in shared spaces. This is for how some believe that
a more relaxed attitude towards PDA can make the Philippines seem more
welcoming and open. Thank you.

Deputy:
To continue the motion, we believe that if we regulate PDA in the country, it
can make our environment and relationship with others less awkward and
uncomfortable for through these actions, we can show and maintain that
PDA is a way of our affection and language. Physical Display of Affection tells
us that we are not alone and that we can unite as one. So if we do not
regulate PDA, then how can it help promote a more positive and inclusive
image of the Philippines not only to the visitors and tourists but even for us,
Filipinos, for some believe that a more relaxed attitude towards PDA can
make the Philippines seem more welcoming and open?

Whip:
Good morning. If we regulate PDA, then it allows people to express their
affection freely without fear of judgment or punishment, many people
believe that PDA is a harmless expression of love and should not be
restricted. If PDA is regulated, then it can help create a more open and
accepting society where people feel comfortable expressing their feelings.
While love and affection should not be restricted, public display of affection
should be regulated to respect cultural values, prevent public discomfort,
and promote proper public behavior Reasonable limitations ensure a
balanced approach, allowing people to express affection while maintaining
respect for others in society. Thank you.

Opposition Team

Leader of Opposition:
Good morning. To continue the motion, if we regulate PDA, then it can lead
or can create a sense of discomfort or exclusion for those who are single or
who prefer to maintain a more private expression of affection. Some people
believe that PDA can make them feel uncomfortable or left out which doesn’t
result unity in our country. It can disrupt public order and create a negative
image of the country for tourists and visitors. People argue that strict rules
against PDA are in place to maintain decorum and prevent disruptions.
Lastly, then it can create uncomfortable or even offensive situations for
others, especially in public spaces like schools, workplaces, or religious
settings. Many people believe that PDA can be inappropriate and distracting
in public setting. Thank you.

Deputy:
Like what was mentioned earlier, physical display of affection can create an
awkward or uncomfortable atmosphere or can even be an offensive situation
for others. Physical display of affection tells us that it ruins the image of
others or even our country for it shows discomfort. So why regulate PDA if
others think that it can ruin the run or can show disrespect?

Whip:
Regulating PDA presents a complex challenge, balancing societal norms with
fundamental rights. The inherent subjectivity in defining "excessive" PDA,
the potential for discriminatory enforcement, and the inefficient use of
resources all strongly suggest that such regulations are often more harmful
than helpful. A more effective approach focuses on addressing actual harm
or disruption to public order, rather than attempting to legislate personal
expressions of affection. Thank you.
