WORD
Word Processor
• Is an electronic device
or computer software application that is
capable of composition, editing, formatting
and sometimes printing of any sort of
written material.
• Typical features of a word processor include
font application, spell checking, grammar
checking, a built-in thesaurus, automatic
text correction, Web integration and HTML
exporting, among others.
MS WORD
• Originally developed as one of the first
What-Users-See-is-What-Users-Get
(WYSIWYG) word processors under the
Microsoft-DOS operating system.
• Microsoft Office Word helps producing
professional-looking, documents by
providing a comprehensive set of tools for
creating and formatting documents in a new
interface.
MS WORD
- It is a word processing software
used to enter and edit text.
- Use to create and edit
documents, such as:
• Letters
• Reports
• Newsletters with pictures and
graphics
Basics of Microsoft Word
• Document – The term used for the file done in MS Word.
• .doc/.docx – File Extension used in saving a MS Word
file.

• From the Windows Start
Button
• From the search Programs

• From the Desktop Icon
Word button:
• The Microsoft Office Word Logo button, use for saving,
printing, sending, publishing or closing a document.
Quick Access Toolbar :
• A small Toolbar next to the Word Button contains
shortcuts for some of the most common commands
Title bar:
• Identifies the Word program running and the name of
the active document.
Ribbon:
• Functions as a combination of menu bar and toolbar,
offering tabbed “pages” of buttons, lists, and
commands.
Home: Clipboard, Fonts, Paragraph, Styles and Editing
Insert: Pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header and
Footer, Text and Symbols
Page Layout: Themes, Page Setup, Page Background,
Paragraph, Arrange
References: Table of Contents, Footnote, Citation &
Bibliography, Captions, Index, and Table of Authorities.
Mailings: Create, Smart Mail Merge, Write & Insert
Fields, Preview Results Finish
Review: Proofing, Comments, Tracking, Changes,
Compare, Protect.
View: Document Views, Show/Hide, Zoom, Window,

Saving Document
❖ Click the Save button on the Quick Access Toolbar.
❖ Click the File tab, and then on the navigation bar,
click the “Save” or “Save As” command.
“Save” command: Copies over previous version
“Save As” command: Used to save a document
under a different name or
location.
Opening an existing document file
1. Click the File tab
2. select Open from the side panel
3. Once the dialog box is open, you can browse for
the folder where you save your document. Select
the filename
4. Click the open button.
