Possible answers to questions in exam topics

1. CLOTHES
1)What kind of clothes do you usually wear? Fashionable or those which suit you well?
I usually wear to university jeans and different tops: in autumn and winter they are sweaters and jackets.
Sometimes I put on dresses or skirts. They look more fashionable but are not as comfortable as jeans or trousers.
2) Have you ever worn a uniform? When? I wore uniform when I was at school. I think it’s good because all
students feel equal and a part of a school team.
3)What is your favourite piece of clothes? My favorite piece of clothes are shirts or tops of different colour and
style.
4) How often do you usually go clothes shopping? I usually go shopping when I get my stipendium.
5) Have you ever judged someone by his/her appearance? All people judge each other by appearance when they
meet each other first. But in many situations the first impression is not always correct.

2. SPORTS
1) What sports do you enjoy doing? I don’t have time to do sports, but sometimes I play football or
volleyball with my friends.
2)What sports do you enjoy watching on TV? Sometimes I watch football matches with our team Garabakh .
3)Who is your favourite athlete/ player/ team? I like football players Ronaldo and Messi. They are great
sportsmen and good people because they help to charity.
4)How often do you go to gym? I don’t go to the gym because as I said I don’t have a lot of time.
5)What are the most famous sport events? In my opinion , the most famous sport events are Olympic Games
and World Championship in football.

3. TOWNS AND COUNTRY

1)Describe the place where you live. I live in a city called ________ . it’s a very nice small town. It’s located
200 kilometres far from the capital Baku. There are not any famous historic places but we have some agricultural
fabrics. I love my hometown because my family , my relative and my friends live there. They all are kind, friendly
and hospitable people.
2)What are advantages and disadvantages of living in a city? Now I live in Baku. There are a lot of schools,
universities, offices and fabrics in here. There are also a lot of restaurants, clubs, cinemas, museums in Baku. I
like to live in Baku. But on the other hand, there is a lot of pollution. Transport, especially metro is always
crowded. And life is expensive in Baku.
3)What are advantages and disadvantages of living in a country? Living in the country is not as expensive as
in big cities. People are friendly and helpful. Fruit and vegetables are fresh and the air is clean. But there aren’t
many jobs in the country. And it can be boring there. There aren’t any cinemas or cafes and in some villages there
isn’t the Internet.
4)Where do most of the population live in your country? Why? The most of population live in cities because
it’s easier to find job in cities.
5)Give the direction from your house to the nearest park/ supermarket/ your university? To get to the
nearest supermarket, I come out of the house, turn left and walk for 10 minutes straight up.

4. HEROES
1)Who is your personal hero? Why? My personal hero is our famous general Polad Hashimov. He sacrificed his
life for liberty and integrity of our republic.
2-3)Who is the national hero of the people in your country? What did that person do?
Our national hero is our president Ilham Aliyev because he led our army and all people to the victory over
Armenian enemies who occupied our territory for 30 years.
4)Have you ever done a heroic action? No, not yet.
5)Do you know anybody who did a heroic action? Yes, we have brave neighbors or relatives who took part in
44 day war.

5. SHOPPING
1)How often do you receive a gift from someone? I receive gifts from my relatives or friends in holidays or
birthdays.
 2)Have you ever received a gift which you did not like? What was it? I like all my presents because people
thought about me when they gave me these gifts.
3)When did you last give a gift? It was my friend’s birthday and I gave her a nice bracelet.
4)What is more important for you? Gifts or appreciation? I appreciate all gifts.
5)What kind of shopping do you prefer? Online or real? I prefer online shopping. You save time, things are
cheaper online and the choice of things is better.

6. TECHNOLOGY
1)Which technologies have made the world better? There are a lot of technologies that made the lives of people
easier. They are cars, trains, planes which allow to travel faster , some appliances as dishwashers or washing
machines because they save time on doing housework. And of course computers, telephones. Now you can talk to
people who live far away, find any info online and send and receive photos and so on.
2)Which technologies have made the world worse? The invention of atomic bomb put humanity in danger of
death.
3)Which technologies have made no difference? All innovations make small or big differences in our life.
4)Which modern technological device can’t you live without? I can’t live without my mobile phones. Every
minute I check and write messages . I also do my homework on mobile.
5)What are advantages and disadvantages of modern technological devices? These technologies make our life
easier but we depend on them for example , using mobiles has a harmful effect on our eyes and health.

7.CULTURES AND CUSTOMS

1)How do you greet people you see every day? we say “Hello” hug or kiss each other.
2)How do you greet friends and family that you haven’t seen for a long time? I hug and kiss them.
3)Do you shake hands with people when you meet them for the first time? Yes I can shake hands and say
“Nice to meet you”. but mostly businessmen shake hands.
4)Do you use any other forms of greeting? No, but in Japan people bow when they meet someone.
5)What unusual customs around the world do you know? (SB p. 58 – learn one of the stories)

8.WHAT IF
1)What kind of natural disasters do you know? There are a lot of natural disasters, such as earthquakes,
tornados, tsunamis, landslides, floods , draughts etc.
2)What devastations can these disasters cause? They destroy houses, kill people, flatten everything.
3)Which natural disasters are characteristic to your country? Earthquakes are common in our republic.
4)What should we do in case of natural disasters? We should hide in the corner of the room or hide under the
table.
5)What man-made disasters have you come across? The man made disasters are pollution and as a result
global warning.

9.CRIME SCENE
1)What kinds of crimes have you heard of? I know crimes such as murder, robbing banks, stealing , burglary,
bribery and so on.
2)Why do people commit crimes? Are they always guilty? Some people commit crimes because they need
money. Criminals aren’t guilty if they committed crime when they protected themselves or their families.
3)Have you ever done any minor offence? What was it? No, but crossing the street in the wrong place is a minor
offence or crime.
4)Do you think it is fair to impose death penalty? In our country death penalty is forbidden because it is also
murder or killing people.
5)What kind of cybercrimes do you know? Why do they happen? - Hackers break the protection system of banks
to steal money. Or they steal personal info and use it to steal money from your bank account.

10.DISCOVERY
1)What discoveries changed the world? There are a lot of discoveries that changed the world: For example:
discovery of gravity by Isaak Newton, electricity by Michael Faradey, radio and magnetic waves etc.
2)What was the most important discovery in your opinion? I think the most important discovery was the
discovery of electricity. After this discovery electric bulbes, and a lot of electric gadgets like TVs, computers and
phones were invented.
3)What was Magellan’s main discovery? Magellan discovered the Strait of Magellan.
4)What did Vasco da Gama main discover? He discovered the way to India from Europe and through East
Africa.
5)Which discoveries had bad results in history? What were they? The discovery of atom and invention of
nuclear or atomic bomb had a very bad result in history .
