Reason: Coal has highest calorific value.

Question 2.

Assertion: Petroleum is known as Black Gold.

Reason: It has great commercial importance.

(3) True or False

State whether the given statements are true or false.
( i) Oxygen in air is an exhaustible natural resource.
(ii) Resources which are present in unlimited quantity in nature are called exhaustible natural resources.
(iii) Wildlife is an exhaustible natural resource.
(iv) Under high temperature and pressure, dead plants get slowly converted to coal.
(v) CNG is less polluting fuel than petrol and diesel. .
(4) Competency Based Question

Compared to coal, natural gas causes less damage to the environment. It is made up of methane and results in less
carbon emissions, it also burns cleaner without leaving any residue. Additionally, natural gas has close to zero
emissions of particulate matter, which is one of the most hazardous pollutants in the air. Natural gas is also easier to
transport than other coal, as it can be stored and transported through pipelines, small storage units, etc.
CNG is also credited as being the cleanest burning fuel in the market today. CNG burns cleaner than petroleum based
products because of its lower carbon content. It produces the fewest emissions of all other fuels and contains
significantly less pollutants than gasoline. CNG produces 20-30% fewer greenhouse gas emissions and 95% fewer
tailpipe emissions than petroleum products. And because CNG fuel systems are completely sealed, CNG vehicles
produce no evaporative emissions.

On the basis of above paragraph answer the following questions:

1. Natural gas is made up of :

a. Ethane
b. Methane
c. Carbon monoxide
d. Gasoline

2. Full form of CNG is :

a. Compact Natural Gas
b. Clean Natural Gas
c. Compressed Natural Gas
d. Carbon Nitrogen Gas

3. On burning CNG leaves:

a. Unburnt Carbon particles

b. Ash
c. No residue
d. Water vapour

4. CNG is better than LPG because :

a. it is cheaper

b. it can be transported through pipeline more easily

c. its Calorific value is more than LPG

d. All of the above
