I. Lý thuyết
Liên từ (Conjunctions) là từ dùng để nối các từ, cụm từ hoặc mệnh đề.
1. Liên từ đẳng lập (Coordinating Conjunctions – thường nhớ bằng từ viết tắt FANBOYS):
• For: bởi vì (nguyên nhân) → Ví dụ: I stayed at home, for it was raining. (Tôi ở nhà, bởi vì
trời mưa.)
• And: và (thêm thông tin) → Ví dụ: I like apples and oranges. (Tôi thích táo và cam.)
• Nor: cũng không (phủ định kép) → Ví dụ: She doesn’t eat meat, nor does she drink milk.
(Cô ấy không ăn thịt, cũng không uống sữa.)
• But: nhưng (tương phản) → Ví dụ: He is poor but happy. (Anh ấy nghèo nhưng hạnh
phúc.)
• Or: hoặc (lựa chọn) → Ví dụ: Do you want tea or coffee? (Bạn muốn trà hay cà phê?)
• Yet: nhưng mà/vậy mà (tương phản nhẹ, bất ngờ) → Ví dụ: It was cold, yet we went
swimming. (Trời lạnh, vậy mà chúng tôi vẫn đi bơi.)
• So: nên (kết quả) → Ví dụ: He studied hard, so he passed the exam. (Cậu ấy học chăm,
nên đã đỗ kỳ thi.)
II. Bài tập
Bài 1. Điền liên từ thích hợp (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
1. I was tired ___ I finished my homework.
2. She stayed at home ___ it was raining heavily.
3. He can play football ___ basketball very well.
4. She doesn’t like meat, ___ does she eat eggs.
5. We can go to the park ___ stay at home.
6. He is rich ___ he is not happy.
7. It was late, ___ they continued working.
Bài 2. Chọn đáp án đúng.
1. I want to go out, ___ it is raining. (but/and/or)
2. We stayed at home ___ watched TV. (and/or/but)
3. She didn’t go to school ___ she was sick. (because/so/for)
4. He studied hard, ___ he got good marks. (so/but/nor)
5. You can have tea ___ coffee. (and/or/but)
Bài 3. Nối câu bằng liên từ phù hợp.
1. She was tired. She kept working. (yet)
2. He is very tall. He can play basketball. (so)
3. We can watch a movie. We can go shopping. (or)
4. She is intelligent. She is hardworking. (and)
5. I will go. You go with me. (if → dùng nâng cao với subordinating conjunction)
Bài 4. Viết lại câu với liên từ gợi ý.
1. I didn’t go to school. I was ill. (for)
2. He is rich. He is unhappy. (but)
3. We can go swimming. We can play badminton. (or)
4. She likes reading. She likes writing. (and)
