1.04 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
A. Coordinate the manufacture, fabrication, and installation of products that door hardware is
installed on.
B. Sequence installation to ensure utility connections are achieved in an orderly and expeditious
manner.
C. Furnish templates for door and frame preparation to manufacturers and fabricators of products
requiring internal reinforcement for door hardware.
D. Preinstallation Meeting:
1. Convene a preinstallation meeting one week prior to commencing work of this section;
attendance is required by affected installers and the following:
a. Architect-Engineer.
b. Installer's Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC).
c. Hardware Installer.
d. Ford Global Security and Fire (only if electrified security hardware is being used)
e. Owner's Security Consultant.
f. Owner's Keying Consultant. Contact: The Enrico Group, c/o Colette Ortiz at 248-854-
6767.
g. Manufacturer's Technical Support Consultant (if different from AHC)
2. Agenda:
a. Review and finalize construction schedule and verify availability of materials,
Installer's personnel, equipment, and facilities needed to make progress and avoid
delays.
b. Inspect and discuss preparatory work performed by other trades.
c. Inspect and discuss electrical roughing-in for electrified door hardware.
d. Review sequence of operation for each type of electrified door hardware.
e. Review required testing, inspecting, and certifying procedures.
E. Coordination Conferences:
1. Installation Coordination Conference: Prior to hardware installation, schedule and hold
meeting to review questions or concerns related to proper installation and adjustment of
door hardware.
a. Attendees: Door hardware supplier, door hardware installer, Contractor.
b. After meeting, provide letter of compliance to Architect, indicating when meeting was
held and who was in attendance.
2. Electrified Hardware Coordination Conference: Prior to ordering electrified hardware,
schedule and hold meeting to coordinate door hardware with security, electrical, doors
and frames, and other related suppliers.
a. Attendees: electrified door hardware supplier, doors and frames supplier, electrified
door hardware installer, electrical subcontractor, Owner, Architect and Contractor.
b. After meeting, provide letter of compliance to Architect, indicating when coordination
conference was held and who was in attendance.
F. Keying Requirements Meeting:
1. One week prior to the keying requirements meetings, the following information shall be
giving to the Owner's Keying Consultant.
a. Architectural drawings with door numbers indicated
b. Architectural composite plan
c. Architectural plan with final room numbers
d. Owners agent to obtain security plans form Ford Global Security and Fire
e. Architects approved hardware schedule from the following suppliers

c. Schematic diagram of preliminary key system.
d. Flow of traffic and extent of security required.
6. Record minutes and distribute copies within two days after meeting to participants, with
two copies to Architect-Engineer, Owner, participants, and those affected by decisions
made.
7. Deliver established keying requirements to manufacturers.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. See Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements, for submittal procedures.
B. Product Data: Manufacturer's catalog literature for each type of hardware, marked to clearly
show products to be furnished for this project, and includes construction details, material
descriptions, finishes, and dimensions and profiles of individual components.
C. Shop Drawings - Door Hardware Schedule: Submit detailed listing that includes each item of
hardware to be installed on each door. Use door numbering scheme as included in Contract
Documents.
1. Prepared by or under supervision of Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC).
2. Comply with DHI (H&S) using door numbers and hardware set numbers as indicated in
construction documents.
3. List groups and suffixes in proper sequence.
4. Provide complete description for each door listed.
5. Provide manufacturer's and product names, and catalog numbers; include functions,
types, styles, sizes and finishes of each item.
6. Include account of abbreviations and symbols used in schedule.
D. Where fire exit hardware is required, provide current test reports indicating compliance to NFPA
80 for specific hardware and door configurations.
E. Shop Drawings - Electrified Door Hardware: Submit diagrams for power, signal, and control
wiring for electrified door hardware that include details of interface with building safety and
security systems. Provide elevations and diagrams for each electrified door opening as follows:
1. Prepared by or under supervision of Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) and
Electrified Hardware Consultant (EHC).
2. Elevations: Submit front and back elevations of each door opening showing electrified
devices with connections installed and an operations narrative describing how opening
operates from either side at any given time.
3. Diagrams: Submit point-to-point wiring diagram that shows each device in door opening
system with related colored wire connections to each device.
F. Samples for Verification:, if required per contract documents.
1. Submit minimum size of 2 by 4 inch (51 by 102 mm) for sheet samples, and minimum
length of 4 inch (102 mm) for other products.
2. Submit one (1) sample of hinge, latchset, lockset, closer, and _____ illustrating style,
color, and finish.
3. Return full-size samples to Contractor.
4. Submit product description with samples.
G. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate special procedures and perimeter conditions
requiring special attention.
H. Maintenance Data: Include data on operating hardware, lubrication requirements, and
inspection procedures related to preventative maintenance.
1. Submit manufacturer's parts lists and templates.
I. Keying Schedule:
1. Submit three (3) copies of Keying Schedule in compliance with requirements established
during Keying Requirements Meeting unless otherwise indicated. The Keying schedule
shall clearly show how the Owner's final keying instructions have been followed.
2. Submit as an integral part of the Door Hardware Schedule or as a Separate Keying
Schedule.
J. Manufacturer's Qualification Statement.
K. Installer's Qualification Statement.
L. Supplier's Qualification Statement.
M. Warranty: Submit manufacturer's warranty and ensure that forms have been completed in
Owner's name and registered with manufacturer.
N. Project Record Documents: Record actual locations of concealed equipment, services, and
conduit.
O. BIM door data, as indicated in standard hardware schedule. Include complete hardware
schedules for all fire rated assembles and doors with electronic access.
P. Maintenance Materials and Tools: Furnish the following for Owner's use in maintenance of
project.
1. See Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements, for additional provisions.
2. Tools: One set of each special wrench or tool applicable for each different or special
hardware component, whether supplied by hardware component manufacturer or not.
1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Product Substitutions: Comply with product requirements stated in Division 01 and as specified
herein.
1. Where specific manufacturer’s product is named and accompanied by “No Substitute,”
including make or model number or other designation, provide product specified. (Note:
Certain products have been selected for their unique characteristics and particular project
suitability.)
a. Where no additional products or manufacturers are listed in product category,
requirements for “No Substitute” govern product selection.
2. Where products indicate “acceptable manufacturers” or “acceptable manufacturers and
products”, provide product from specified manufacturers, subject to compliance with
specified requirements and “Single Source Responsibility” requirements stated herein.
B. Supplier Qualifications and Responsibilities: Recognized architectural hardware supplier with
record of successful in-service performance for supplying door hardware similar in quantity,
type, and quality to that indicated for this Project and that provides certified Architectural
Hardware Consultant (AHC) available to Owner, Architect, and Contractor, at reasonable times
during the Work for consultation.
1. Warehousing Facilities: In Project's vicinity.
2. Scheduling Responsibility: Preparation of door hardware and keying schedules.
3. Engineering Responsibility: Preparation of data for electrified door hardware, including
Shop Drawings, based on testing and engineering analysis of manufacturer's standard
units in assemblies similar to those indicated for this Project.
4. Coordination Responsibility: Coordinate installation of electronic security hardware with
Architect and electrical engineers and provide installation and technical data to Architect
and other related subcontractors.
a. Upon completion of electronic security hardware installation, inspect and verify that
all components are working properly.
C. Installer Qualifications: Qualified tradesmen, skilled in application of commercial grade
hardware with record of successful in-service performance for installing door hardware similar
in quantity, type, and quality to that indicated for this Project.
D. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain each type of door hardware from single manufacturer.
1. Provide electrified door hardware from same manufacturer as mechanical door hardware,
unless otherwise indicated.
2. Manufacturers that perform electrical modifications and that are listed by testing and
inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction are acceptable.
E. Fire-Rated Door Openings: Provide door hardware for fire-rated openings that complies with
NFPA 80 and requirements of authorities having jurisdiction. Provide only items of door
hardware that are listed and are identical to products tested by Underwriters Laboratories,
Intertek Testing Services, or other testing and inspecting organizations acceptable to
authorities having jurisdiction for use on types and sizes of doors indicated, based on testing at
positive pressure and according to NFPA 252 or UL 10C and in compliance with requirements
of fire-rated door and door frame labels.
F. Smoke- and Draft-Control Door Assemblies: Where smoke- and draft-control door assemblies
are required, provide door hardware that meets requirements of assemblies tested according to
UL 1784 and installed in compliance with NFPA 105.
1. Air Leakage Rate: Maximum air leakage of 0.3 cfm/sq. ft. (3 cu. m per minute/sq. m) at
tested pressure differential of 0.3-inch wg (75 Pa) of water.
G. Electrified Door Hardware: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by testing
agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
H. Means of Egress Doors: Latches do not require more than 15 lbf (67 N) to release latch. Locks
do not require use of key, tool, or special knowledge for operation.
I. Accessibility Requirements: For door hardware on doors in an accessible route, comply with
governing accessibility regulations cited in “REFERENCES” article, herein.
1. Provide operating devices that do not require tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of wrist
and that operate with force of not more than 5 lbf (22.2 N).
J. Maximum opening-force requirements:
1. Interior, Non-Fire-Rated Hinged Doors: 5 lbf (22.2 N) applied perpendicular to door.
2. Sliding or Folding Doors: 5 lbf (22.2 N) applied parallel to door at latch.
3. Fire Doors: Minimum opening force allowable by authorities having jurisdiction.
K. Bevel raised thresholds with slope of not more than 1:2. Provide thresholds not more than 1/2
inch (13 mm) high.
L. Adjust door closer sweep periods so that, from open position of 70 degrees, door will take at
least 3 seconds to move to 3 inches (75 mm) from latch, measured to leading edge of door.
1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Package hardware items individually; label and identify each package with door opening code
to match door hardware schedule.
1.08 WARRANTY
A. See Section 01 78 00 - Closeout Submittals, for additional warranty requirements.
B. Warranty against defects in material and workmanship for period indicated, from Date of
Substantial Completion.
1. Closers: Five years, minimum.
2. Exit Devices: Three years, minimum.
3. Locksets and Cylinders: Three years, minimum.
4. Other Hardware: Two years, minimum.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
A. Provide specified door hardware as required to make doors fully functional, compliant with
applicable codes, and secure to extent indicated.
B. Provide individual items of single type, of same model, and by same manufacturer.
C. Provide door hardware products that comply with the following requirements:
1. Applicable provisions of federal, state, and local codes.
2. Accessibility: ADA Standards and ICC A117.1.
3. Applicable provisions of NFPA 101.
4. Fire-Rated Doors: NFPA 80, listed and labeled by qualified testing agency for fire
protection ratings indicated, based on testing at positive pressure in accordance with
NFPA 252 or UL 10C.
5. Hardware on Fire-Rated Doors: Listed and classified by testing firm acceptable to
authorities having jurisdiction as suitable for application indicated.
6. Hardware for Smoke and Draft Control Doors(Indicated as "S" on Drawings): Provide
door hardware that complies with local codes, and requirements of assemblies tested in
accordance with UL 1784.
a. Air Leakage Rate: Tested in accordance with UL 1784, with air leakage rate not to
exceed 3.0 cfm/sf (0.01524 cu m/sec/sq m) of door opening at 0.10 inch (24.9 Pa) of
water for both ambient and elevated temperature tests.
7. Listed and certified compliant with specified standards by BHMA (CPD).
8. Auxiliary Hardware: BHMA A156.16.
9. Straps and Tee Hinges: BHMA A156.20.
10. Hardware Preparation for Steel Doors and Steel Frames: BHMA A156.115.
11. Hardware Preparation for Wood Doors with Wood or Steel Frames: BHMA A156.115W.
12. Products Requiring Electrical Connection: Listed and classified by UL (DIR) as suitable
for the purpose specified.
D. Electrically Operated and/or Controlled Hardware: Provide necessary power supplies, power
transfer hinges, relays, and interfaces as required for proper operation; provide wiring between
hardware and control components and to building power connection in compliance with NFPA
70.
1. Refer to Section 28 10 00 for additional access control system requirements.
E. Lock Function: Provide lock and latch function numbers and descriptions of manufacturer's
series. Refer to Section 08 0671 for listing of hardware sets.
F. Fasteners:
1. Provide fasteners of proper type, size, quantity, and finish that comply with commercially
recognized standards for proposed applications.
a. Aluminum fasteners are not permitted.
b. Provide phillips flat-head screws with heads finished to match door surface hardware
unless otherwise indicated.
2. Provide machine screws for attachment to reinforced hollow metal and aluminum frames.
a. Self-drilling (Tek) type screws are not permitted.
3. Provide stainless steel machine screws and lead expansion shields for concrete and
masonry substrates.
4. Provide wall grip inserts for hollow wall construction.
5. Provide spacers or sex bolts with sleeves for through bolting of hollow metal doors and
frames.
6. Fire-Rated Applications: Comply with NFPA 80.
a. Provide wood or machine screws for hinges mortised to doors or frames, strike plates
to frames, and closers to doors and frames.
b. Provide steel through bolts for attachment of surface mounted closers, hinges, or exit
devices to door panels unless proper door blocking is provided.
7. Concealed Fasteners: Do not use through or sex bolt type fasteners on door panel sides
indicated as concealed fastener locations, unless otherwise indicated.
2.02 ARCHITECTURAL HINGES
A. Manufacturers:
1. Ives (IVE)
2. McKinney Products (McK)
3. Substitutions: See Section 01 25 00 - Substitution Procedures: Product must exceed
BHMA A156.1, Grade 1; third party circle tests must be submitted.
B. Hinges: Exceed BHMA A156.1, Grade 1
1. Butt Hinges: Exceed BHMA A156.1 , minimum 2,500,000 cycles, and BHMA A156.7 for
templated hinges.
a. Provide hinge width required to clear surrounding trim.
2. Provide hinges on every swinging door.
3. Provide five-knuckle full mortise butt hinges unless otherwise indicated.
4. Provide ball-bearing hinges at each door with closer.

3. Some Ford locations may be using the Best SFIC 7-pin keying system. Consult Ford
Global Security and Fire on rekeying strategy at the start of a project. Ford Global
Security and Fire shall make the determination if project area shall be rekeyed to new
requirement
2.10 CYLINDRICAL LOCKS
A. Manufacturers:
1. Sargent (SA): 10 Line
2. Schlage (SCH) ND Series
B. Cylindrical Locks (Bored): Exceed BHMA A156.2, Grade 1, 4000 Series.
1. Contractor cores do not need to comply with Owner requirement, contractor cores must be
easily identifiable.
2. All Cylindrical lock bodies are supplied by the Owner, see section 2.08 of this specification
3. Bored Hole: per manufacture's requirement. Indicate on submittals for coordination with
door assembly supplier.
4. Strikes: Provide manufacturer's standard strike for each latchset or lockset with strike box
and curved lip extending to protect frame in compliance with indicated requirements.
5. Key System: SFIC format 7 pin
6. Lock function: As indicated in project documents
7. Provide lock sets with solid cast levels and wrought roses on both sides.
a. Lever design: As selected by Architect from standard line
b. Rose Design: As selected by Architect from standard line
8. Provide locksets with solid steel anti-rotation through bolts and posts to control excessive
lever rotation.
9. Provide independently operating levers with two external return spring cassettes mounted
under roses to prevent lever sag.
10. For locations receiving a keyed cylinder that is a regularly occupied space, provide
'locked' or unlocked indicator on inside trim.
11. For locations receiving a privacy lock-set, provide an occupancy/ vacant indicator on the
outside trim of door.
12. Provide locks with standard latches featuring a 2 3⁄4" (70 mm) backset and a 1⁄2" latch
throw capable of UL listing of 3 hours on a 4.0 x 10.0 opening. Provide proper latch throw
for UL listing at pairs
13. Selectable EL (Fail Safe)/EU (Fail Secure) operating mode via switch on chassis

2.11 MORTISE LOCKS
A. Manufacturers:
1. Sargent (SA): 8200 Series
2. Schlage (SCH): L Series
B. Mortise Locks: Comply with BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1, Security
Grade 1.
1. For security doors only as designated by the Owner, otherwise use cylindrical locks.
2. Bored Hole: per manufacture's requirement. Indicate on submittals for coordination with
door assembly supplier.
3. Latchbolt: per manufacture's requirement, Coordinate with electrical strike plate for
electrified locations.
4. Deadbolt Throw: 1 inch (25.4 mm), minimum,
5. Backset: 2-3/4 inch (70 mm) unless otherwise indicated.
6. Strikes: Provide manufacturer's standard strike for each latchset or lockset with strike box
and curved lip extending to protect frame in compliance with indicated requirements.
1. Provide wall stops to prevent damage to wall surface upon opening door.
2. Type: Bumper, convex, wall stop.
3. Material: Stainless steel housing with rubber insert.
2.23 ASTRAGALS
A. Astragals: Comply with BHMA A156.22.

6. Provide weatherstripping on each exterior door at head, jambs, and meeting stiles of door

2.26 BUMPER GUARD
A. Bumper Guard: Provide to protect door surface and operating hardware from being damaged
by heavy objects that move through opening.

2.27 LATCH PROTECTOR
A. Latch Protector: Provide on door to protect latch from being tampered with while in locked
position.

2.28 SILENCERS
A. Silencers: Provide at equal locations on door frame to mute sound of door's impact upon
closing.
1. Single Door: Provide three on strike jamb of frame.
2. Pair of Doors: Provide two on head of frame, one for each door at latch side.
3. Material: Rubber, black color.
2.29 KEY CONTROL SYSTEMS
A. The Contractor shall coordinate with Owner and Owner's Keying Consultant for the
requirements for the key control system. For projects that have the Schlage keying system,
contact The Enrico Group, Colette Ortiz at 248-854-6767. If the project uses a different keying
system, contact Ford Corporate Security.
B. Manufacturers:
1. SchlageEverest 29 SFIC 7 pin.
2. No substitutions allowed.
C. Key Control Systems: Comply with guidelines of BHMA A156.28.
1. Provide keying information in compliance with Ford's Security Standards.
2. Keying: Grand master keyed.
3. Include construction keying and control keying with removable core cylinders. The
Owner's Keying Consultant shall provide all cores.
4. Key to Ford Established Key System.
5. Keys to be Supplied in accordance to Owner's policies and requirements per GM-System
6. Keys to be enveloped per Ford Global Security and Fire established security standards.
7. Keys to be delivered to established Ford Property Management authorized individuals
only. Ford Property Management will distribute high security level keys to those
authorized individuals.
8. The Contractor share provide:
a. Floor plans with key marks.
b. Key schedule with final room numbers and location description
c. Key schematic
9. Owner's Keying Consultant shall install all final cores, all construction cores and keysare
are the property of Ford Land and shall be returned to the Owner's Keying Consultant.
2.30 REQUEST TO EXIT DEVICE
A. Where code and/or operations require an exit motion sensor, consult with Ford Corporate
Security.
2.31 POWER SUPPLY
A. See Section 28 10 00, power supplies are supplied and installed by Access Control Vendor,
unless product warranties and technical issues do not allow a common power supply.
B. Manufacturers and Products:
1. Acceptable Manufacturers and Products: Schlage or Von Duprin PS900 series, Precision
ELR series, Sargent 3500 series, Dynalock 5000 series, Folger Adam FABPS series,
Securitron BPS series, Security Door Controls 600 series
C. Requirements:
1. Provide power supplies, recommended and approved by manufacturer of electrified
locking component, for operation of electrified locks, electrified exit devices, magnetic
locks, electric strikes, and other components requiring power supply.
2. Provide appropriate quantity of power supplies necessary for proper operation of
electrified locking components as recommended by manufacturer of electrified locking
components with consideration for each electrified component using power supply,
location of power supply, and approved wiring diagrams. Locate power supplies as
directed by Architect.
3. Provide regulated and filtered 24 VDC power supply , and UL class 2 listed.
4. Options:
a. Provide power supply, where specified, with internal capability of charging sealed
backup batteries 24 VDC, in addition to operating DC load.
b. Provide sealed batteries for battery back-up at each power supply where specified
c. Provide keyed power supply cabinet.
5. Provide power supply in an enclosure, complete, and requiring 120VAC to fused input.
6. Provide power supply with emergency release terminals, where specified, that allow
release of all devices upon activation of fire alarm system complete with fire alarm input
for initiating “no delay” exiting mode.
2.32 FINISHES
A. Finishes: Provide door hardware of same finish, unless otherwise indicated.
1. Primary Finish: 626; satin chromium plated over nickel, with brass or bronze base
material (former US equivalent US26D); BHMA A156.18.
2. Exceptions:
a. Where base material metal is specified to be different, provide finish that is an
equivalent appearance in accordance with BHMA A156.18.
b. Hinges for Fire-Rated Doors: Steel base material with painted finish, in compliance
with NFPA 80.
c. Door Closer Covers and Arms: BHMA 689; aluminum painted, with any base
material.
d. Steel Hinges: 652; satin chromium plated over nickel with steel base material
e. Latch guards, kick plates, stops, push plates, pull plates, and protection plates: 630
satin stainless steel with stainless steel 300 series base material
f. Aluminum Surface Trim and Gasket Housings: Anodized to match door panel finish,
not other hardware, unless otherwise indicated.
g. Hardware for Aluminum Storefront Doors: Finished to match door panel finish,
except at hand contact surfaces provide stainless steel with satin finish, unless
otherwise indicated.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that doors and frames are ready to receive this work; labeled, fire-rated doors and frames
are properly installed, and dimensions are as indicated on shop drawings.
B. Verify that electric power is available to power operated devices and of correct characteristics.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Install hardware in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and applicable codes.
B. Install hardware on fire-rated doors and frames in accordance with applicable codes and NFPA
80.
C. Install hardware for smoke and draft control doors in accordance with NFPA 105.
D. Use templates provided by hardware item manufacturer.
E. Do not install surface mounted items until application of finishes to substrate are fully
completed.
F. Door Hardware Mounting Heights: Distance from finished floor to center line of hardware item.
As indicated in following list; unless noted otherwise in Door Hardware Schedule or on
drawings.
1. For Steel Doors and Frames: Install in compliance with DHI (LOCS) recommendations.
2. For Steel Doors and Frames: Refer to Section 08 11 13.
3. For Aluminum-Framed Storefront Doors and Frames: Refer to Section 08 43 13.
4. For Wood Doors: Install in compliance with DHI WDHS.3 recommendations.
5. Flush Wood Doors: Refer to Section 08 14 16.
6. Mounting heights in compliance with ADA Standards:
a. Locksets: 40-5/16 inch (1024 mm).
b. Push Plates/Pull Bars: 42 inch (1067 mm).
c. Deadlocks (Deadbolts): 48 inch (1219 mm).
d. Exit Devices: 40-5/16 inch (1024 mm).
G. Set exterior door thresholds with full-width bead of elastomeric sealant at each point of contact
with floor providing a continuous weather seal; anchor thresholds with stainless steel
countersunk screws.

3.03 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Inspections and Sign-offs to occur prior to final keying.
B. Post Installation: Engage Manufacturers Representative to perform inspections and to prepare
inspection reports.
C. Manufacturers Representative will inspect door hardware and state in each report whether
installed work complies with or deviates from requirements, including whether door hardware is
properly installed and adjusted.
3.04 ADJUSTING
A. Adjust work under provisions of Section 01 70 00 - Execution and Closeout Requirements.
B. Adjust hardware for smooth operation.
C. Adjust gasketing for complete, continuous seal; replace if unable to make complete seal.
3.05 CLEANING
A. Clean finished hardware in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions after final
adjustments have been made.
B. Clean adjacent surfaces soiled by hardware installation.
C. Replace items that cannot be cleaned to manufacturer's level of finish quality at no additional
cost.

requirements.
3.06 PROTECTION
A. Protect finished Work under provisions of Section 01 70 00 - Execution and Closeout
Requirements.
