39 Meera is a 58-year-old grandmother who loves reading bedtime stories to her 4
grandchildren.
Recently, she noticed that while reading, the words appeared blurry when held
close, but she could still see distant objects but not very clearly. Worried, she
visited an eye doctor for a check-up. During the consultation, the doctor examined
her eyes and discussed her difficulty in focusing on nearby objects. The doctor also
mentioned that this was a common age-related change in the human eye.
i) Define the power of accommodation of the human eye.
ii) What is Presbyopia?
iii) What is the cause of this defect? How can it be corrected?
iv) Draw a diagram to show how this defect is corrected using suitable lenses.
