VAQUITA

dolphins on the brink of extinction

FACTS ABOUT VAQUITA
Vaquitas are the small version of dolphins. They are found exclusively in
the northern Gulf of California, Mexico, in shallow waters less than 50
meters deep. These cetacean are carnivores and can reaching the lengths
of 4.6-4.9 feet long and weighing over 60-120 pounds.

They have distinctive facial markings, including dark rings around their eyes
and curved black lips. Their skin is dark grey to black on their back, fading to
pale grey on their underside. Making them looked like panda.

Vaquitas are shy and elusive, avoiding boats and human activity. They
communicate using echolocation, emitting high-frequency clicks to navigate
and locate prey. They are usually seen alone or in pairs, unlike dolphins.
