BEOWULF: Hengest, so he is the one charge now?
FREAWARU: Yes, they say he was a great warrior. Brave and righteous.
BEOWULF: A worthy subject for a song then.
FREAWARU: As are you. After what you’ve done for us, poets will be lining up to sing the tale of Beowulf,
the great hero of the Geats.
BEOWULF: Do you think so?
FREAWARU: I know so. Scop is working on one already, I heard a couple of lines.
BEOWULF: He is? Well, I shall hope he remembers to include one most important character.
FREAWARU: And who is that?
BEOWULF: A fair lady he met during his travels; Freawaru, that was what they called her.
FREAWARU: I have no place in a song.
BEOWULF: Why not? It is my song is it not? I say you do have a place.
THE SCRIBE: Swaying in the candlelight, the unspoken question hung ever above them. But it was not to be
answered tonight, not now, when the harp strum loud and the hall glittered with newfound light. So instead
here is what they did; they danced.
