Pre-employment screening
To help you through the pre-employment screening
process, we've created a detailed guide explaining which
documents you'll need to upload to the Access Screening
vetting platform if your application is successful.
The documents you provide will be securely stored
within the Access Screening platform, in line with our
retention policy.
Important information for your application
To ensure we comply with legal standards
we need to complete the following checks:
1. Right to Work: Confirming you are
eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
2. Basic Disclosure check, completed by the
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): a
basic criminal record check to assess your
suitability for the role.
Please note, your proof of ID and your
proof of Right to Work might require
different documents.

Proof of Right to Work in the UK
Purpose of the check
Right to Work checks are a legal requirement to confirm you are eligible to work in the
UK. You must only provide original documents, not copies.

Passport A valid and signed passport showing your identity and nationality.
If applicable, a visa which confirms either a set time or indefinite leave to
remain in the UK. If the visa is expired, we must see a relevant Certificate of
Visa
Application from the Home Office (not a solicitor) stating clearly that you are
still eligible to work in this country. The visa must be in your current passport.
• Birth Certificate – UK citizens may provide a birth certificate instead of your
passport. This must be accompanied by an official proof of National
Insurance number e.g., your official NI card, an original P45 orP60 where
your full first name and surname are visible. We cannot accept first name

identification share code as part of your online application. To get a share code, please
click here and follow the instructions on the government website.
• If you have an endorsed passport or an immigration status document, you
are not eligible for a share code and will need to bring your physical
document to the interview.
Verification Process
• Manual Check – Dependent on what document you have indicated you hold (as declared at
the online application). You may be asked to take along your document/s to your interview.
• Online Check – if applicable, provide a share code for the employer to check your status
online.
• IDVT Service – if applicable, your documents may be verified through an Identity Document
Validation Technology service.
Compliance
• Ensure all documents are up to date and valid.
• If your name appears differently on any of the documents or forms provided (e.g., due to
marriage or divorce), please provide the necessary documents to evidence the change of
name. This can include a Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll.
• Be prepared to provide any additional information if requested.
• Understand that these checks are necessary to comply with immigration laws and avoid
penalties.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
Purpose of the DBS Check
As part of our recruitment process, all candidates must undergo a Disclosure and Barring
Service (DBS) check. This is an important step to help us ensure the safety and well-being of the
people we serve. The DBS check provides information on any criminal record, which helps us
make informed decisions about your suitability for the role. To complete the check, we'll need a
combination of documents that confirm your full name and date of birth.
What you must do as part of the Basic Disclosure Check process
• Provide valid, current, and original documentation.
• Documents must not be handwritten and must be dated, complying with the timescales
outlined in DBS guidance.
• Not be issued by Royal Mail unless it is a P60.
• Avoid bringing documents printed from the internet. Exception: if you don’t receive
printed bank statements by post, you can use a printed copy that’s stamped and signed
by your bank – this must be dated within the last 3 months.
• Ensure all documents are in your current full name as recorded on your application.
Documents with initials cannot be accepted.
• Include each type of document only once. For example, don’t provide two bank
statements from the same bank as two of the required documents.
• Do not bring foreign equivalents of identity documents if they are listed as ‘(UK)’ on the
list of valid identity documents.
• If providing a British passport, please ensure that it is still in date.
Routes of ID checking
To complete a Basic Disclosure check (DBS), you need to follow the ID checking guidelines,
which involve providing a range of documents to verify your identity. Here are the two routes
you can take:

Group 1 – Primary identity documents

Passport Any current and valid passport. A UK passport can be
expired up to a maximum of 6 months.
e-Visa Accessed via the ‘View and Prove’ service. The share code
requested by the applicant should be a ‘general’ share
code. If you do not have a UKVI account to access your
eVisa you can create you can create one online (Get access
to your online immigration status (eVisa) - GOV.UK)
Biometric residence permit (BRP) A BRP showing Indefinite Leave to Remain, Indefinite Leave
to Enter or No Time Limit can be used up to 18 months
past the expiry date of the BRP. BRP holders should be
encouraged to create an account and access their eVisa.
Application Registration Card (ARC) Issued by the Home Office. Must be checked against the
Home Office Employer Checking Service.
Current driving licence photocard - (full Current and valid photocard driving licence issued by UK,
or provisional) Isle of Man, and Channel Islands. From 8 June 2015, the
paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence will not
be valid and will no longer be issued by DVLA.
Birth certificate - issued within 12 UK, Isle of Man, and Channel Islands - including those
months of birth issued by UK authorities overseas, for example embassies,
High Commissions and HM Forces. Long form birth
certificates only, short form birth certificates do not
contain enough information to be used as an ID document.
