A NEW TEST OF CREATIVITY

(VERBAL)
ABSTRACT

In psychology, a creativity test is an assessment designed to measure a person's creative

potential or creative thinking abilities. These tests evaluate how well someone can generate
original, diverse, and flexible ideas or solve problems in novel ways.

The aim of the experiment is to assess an individual’s creativity using the Test of Creativity
Questionnaire developed by Dr Roma Pal which consists of 3 parts (i.e FL,FLX,ORC).where
the parts have dimensions and questions in each. This questionnaire has been administered
to my subject making sure that my subject has answered all the questions and noting down
their personal details. The questionnaire has been calculated properly by using the manual
of Test of Creativity (Verbal). My subject has obtained a total score of 92 in fluency which is
interpreted as moderate, scored 16 in flexibility which interprets as high and then in
originality my subject scored 2 which interprets as low on the Test of Creativity (Verbal)

INTRODUCTION

Definition of Test of Creativity (Verbal):

A creativity test in psychology is an assessment designed to evaluate an individual's ability

to think creatively. It typically measures aspects like divergent thinking, originality, fluency
(number of ideas), and flexibility (variety of ideas) in response to open-ended tasks or
problems. These tests aim to gauge how well a person can generate new, novel solutions or
ideas.

Factors Influencing Test of Creativity (Verbal)

1. Cognitive Flexibility: Ability to switch between different ideas and perspectives.

2. Vocabulary and Language Proficiency: A rich and varied vocabulary aids in
expressing creative ideas.

3. Prior Knowledge and Experience: Exposure to diverse topics and experiences
enhances creativity.

4. Intrinsic Motivation: Internal drive to explore and generate original ideas boosts
creativity.

5. Emotional State: Positive emotions encourage creative thinking, while stress or
anxiety can hinder it.
6. Attention and Focus: High levels of focus help in generating and refining creative
responses.

7. Cultural Influences: Cultural background shapes creative expression and idea
generation.

8. Time Pressure: A balanced amount of time enhances creativity; too little or too
much time can limit it.

9. Personality Traits: Traits like openness to experience and risk-taking influence
creativity levels.

10.Environmental Factors: Supportive, distraction-free environments foster better

creative thinking.

11.Task Framing and Instructions: The way tasks are framed influences the creativity
of responses.

12.Age and Developmental Stage: Age affects the depth and form of creative thinking.

13.Social Influences: Peer feedback and societal expectations can either stimulate or
stifle creativity.

14.Practice and Training: Regular practice and exposure to creative exercises improve
verbal creativity over time.

Conclusion:
A test of creativity in psychology should assess more than just idea generation, considering
factors like cognitive flexibility, emotional state, and real-world problem-solving. This
approach offers a fuller understanding of creativity as a dynamic and multifaceted process.
