The production engineering class I, under the coordination of the professor Ing. Gladys
Flores conducted the technical visit to the production plant facilities.
UNILEVER Central America; this plant is located in Comayagua, in front of
Soto Cano Air Base, Palmerola.

The visit took place on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, departing from the University.
National Autonomous University of Honduras at 6:00 am and returning to the same between 2:00 and

3:00 pm on the same day.

The production plant of UNILEVER in Comayagua is dedicated to the production of

soaps and detergents from different brands such as XTRA, which they only have
stored for a maximum of two days and then sent to the distribution centers
that are located in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, UNOX, Rinso, Surf, among others.
Some brands and forms of soap are only for other countries, so
it is exported to all of Central America, such as ball soap or 'pelota' soap
that is only distributed for El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The plant has three safety zones, which we can notice because in them
we can find a kiosk, one is near the main offices and the other two
around the COMBIBAR Plant. They have a person called BRIGADISTA,
what is that which tells us what to do in case of emergency. To enter the plant
Production personnel must wear their appropriate personal protective equipment.

and safety signs. The speed within the plant must not exceed 10
km/h, each and every one of its employees adheres to and respects the internal regulations of
the company.

UNILEVER is governed by the World Class Manufacturing quality management system.

(WCM) and for them it is much better than ISO standards. It is a system of
production organization adopted by some of the most important manufacturers
of the world such as Fiat, Chrysler, or Tetra Park. The goal of the WCM system is to improve the

efficiency in industrial processes and ensuring the manufacture of products of

quality, eliminating waste and losses through the commitment of everyone
levels of the organization in the use of best practices at a global level.
A curious fact is that UNILEVER is in more than 190 countries and 2.5 billion
people buy their products daily.

We found two plants.

1. NSD = It makes soap based on salts, sodium carbonate, and calcium carbonate
2. Combi = Where fat is its raw material, beef tallow, fatty acids, etc.

Most of the raw materials are imported by UNILEVER as they must comply
with many requirements and the demands of their clients.

They are considered a hazardous plant of UNILEVER due to the sulfurization area.

The company's quality policy is that its products meet expectations.

from the client.

The management programs that UNILEVER has are: Good Manufacturing Practices
(BPM), Quality Verification Program (QVP) and Risk Analysis and Points
Critical Control Points (HACCP), which is a preventive system whose purpose is
guarantee the SAFETY of products and food. The objective of the program of
Good Manufacturing Practices is to implement and standardize practices of
product safety and hygiene, thus ensuring the highest safety and
monitoring of legal requirements and the security and quality policies of UNILEVER
Central America.

Quality indicators used by UNILEVER Central America are: TRACEABILITY, CPK,

SNCR, NON-CONFORMITY, NON-COMPLIANT PALLETS, among others.

Quality incident classification

TYPE A: Defect with potential impact on consumer safety.

TYPE B: Significant impact on product quality or brand.
TYPE C: Minor defect in quality or brand but still serves its purpose.
TYPE D: Finished product within the limits of the factory or center of
distribution.
There are three types of CRQS evaluation in the factory.

On-Pack: it is carried out without the need to open the packaging or use the product.
In-Pack: It is done after opening the packaging, but without using the product.
3. In-Use: It is carried out during the use of the product.

Regarding the production, they plan it based on the demand they have for

the maintenance given to the machinery is at least once a week and more
when it is not being used, that is, when another product is being manufactured in another
machine, then it is used to carry out the necessary maintenance so that there is no
