Make sure the leveling rod is available, tool no. 140 589 15 21 00.
Drene:
Oil pan
Torque converter (remove the cover and turn the motor until the drain plug is visible)

To remove the plug from the level rod tube for the locking plate Fig. 2 [1]
and push out the locking pin Fig. 2 [2]. Remove the plug.
Fill the transmission with 5.0 liters of automatic transmission fluid.
Make sure the gear lever is in P. Start the engine.
Check the level of the automatic transmission oil and fill it if necessary.
Select each gear several times, then put the gear selector back in P.
Connect a diagnostic tool to check the transmission oil temperature.

Start the engine, let it idle, and check the transmission oil level.

Operating ranges of the level rod:
Cold regimen Fig. 2 [A] = approximately 25°C.

General precautions

Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.


Remove the glow plugs to make it easier to turn the engine.
Rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise specified).
Respect the torque specifications.
If applicable: Mark the location of the crankshaft position sensor before disassembling it.
Do not turn the crankshaft through the camshaft or other gears.
Do not turn the crankshaft or the camshaft while the timing chain is disassembled.

Valve adjustment procedures


Warning: The distribution chain can be replaced

previously indicated, the old one can be linked
chain to the new one, passing it around the sprockets and
after joining it.
Requirements for the disassembly/assembly of the gear sprockets and the chain
distribution

Disassembly of the oil pan.

Warning: The timing chain and gears


They are located at the rear of the engine.
Check the adjustment of the camshafts:
Motor in PMS of cylinder no. 1Fig. 1[1] .
Remove the exhaust camshaft position sensor.
Make sure that the timing marks on the camshafts are aligned as well
as shownFig. 1yFig. 1If not, rotate the crankshaft 360°.

Adjust the camshafts as follows:


Make sure that the crankshaft is at the top dead center of cylinder number 1Fig. 1.
Loosen the screw of the pinion of each camshaftFig. 1The screws of the pinions
The camshafts have left-handed threads.
Remove the bearing caps from the camshaftsFig. 1[5].
Align the camshafts with the camshaft alignment toolsFig. 1

Tighten the screw of the pinion of each camshaftFig. 1Tightening torque: 55 Nm + 90°.
Disassemble the alignment tools for the camshaftsFig. 1
