INFORMATION.-Information about the surrounding world.

•ORIENTATION.- Temporo-special orientation.

MENTAL CONTROL.-Ability to automatically reproduce information

previously internalized. It is sensitive to organic brain syndromes.

LOGICAL MEMORY.-Ability to recall verbal material with logical content

•DIGIT MEMORY.- Passive attention, that is to evoke digits.

VISUAL REPRODUCTION.-Skills to fixate, evoke, and reproduce visual stimuli

presented in advance.

ASSOCIATED LEARNING.- Auditory learning, that is to reproduce pairs of

words (simple and/or complex).

A Standardized Memory Scale for clinical use:

The Memory Scale is the result of 10 years of directed intermittent experimentation.

toward the development of a quick, simple, and practical memory test. This scale is
necessary due to the frequent occasions when the psychologist works in mental hospitals
they receive requests to assess a patient's memory in relation to the rest of their
operation.
As far as I know, the only instrument available for clinical purposes is the
examination of memory described in the 'Mental Test' in Wells' clinical practice (2,3
this examination however, it has limited standardization and for other reasons not
it is very suitable).

Among these reasons is its extension, the little that is within the reach of some.
materials that are used, and above all the very restricted population that has been standardized.

It should be noted, however, that Wells was the first to introduce the term Quotient of
Memory (C.M.) in the analogous sense of the I.C.

The present scale consists of 7 sub-tests:

1st The Information Test: It consists of simple questions about personal and current information:
How old are you? Who is the current president of Peru?, etc. The test discriminates very little or
almost nothing among normal or almost normal subjects has been included due to its usefulness in the
examination of subjects with special defects such as aphasia and senile problems about which
Disturbances often yield expected results.

2nd Orientation Test: It consists of 5 simple questions such as What year are we in? What
What day is today?, etc. Designed to assess the subject's immediate orientation. Like the test of
information contributes very little as a discriminator to the total score but was included with
similar reasons to those mentioned for the use of personal information items.

3rd Mental Control Test: It consists of three items: Counting backwards from 20 to 1,
repetition of the alphabet, against 3 in 3. Its value is basically in case of illness
brain organic conditions that are not very advanced; but which would not be detected by
simple memory items.

4th Logical Memory Test: It consists of 2 memory passages similar to the selection ones.
from the memory of Stanfort Binet at the age of 10 and pointing similarly. The score
the subject is the average number of ideas that he reproduces correctly in the passages;
The test aims to measure the immediate recall of logical material.

5th Digit Retention Test: forwards and backwards, the series used are the
employees on the Bellevue intelligence scale in which the maximum number of digits
limited to 8 and 7 respectively.

6th Visual Reproduction Test: which requires the subject to draw figures from memory
geometric shapes exposed for a period of 10 seconds. The figures are taken from the
used in the ARMY performance scales 'World War I', the third is from Binet.
7th Associated Learning Test: which consists of 10 associated pairs, some easy and
other difficult ones that the subject is asked to learn in 3 trials. The included item has been
derived from the list of associated pairs originally used by the author in his study of
retention defect in Korsakoff's psychosis.
As mentioned already, the current scale is the result of 10 years of experimentation.
during which several items and groups of items were eliminated in the present form. Has
has been used since 1940 at Bellow Hospital with provisional sums based on the
exam approximately with 200 normal subjects aged between 25 and 50
years, men and women. The subjects were not patients of the hospital.
In approximately 100 of the intelligence scores obtained with the adult scale.
de Weschsler, Bellow was also available. The standardization was done of
Average scores for the population were obtained by age.
so compared to the average memory scores to determine ages in front of
heavy scores from the Wells scale (age group 20-24) and then testing several
constants that would maintain the average IQ for any age group equivalent to the IQ
the average of that age group. The general form of the equation we arrived at:
Y=X Ca, where: Y=Correct or adjusted score
X= It is the original score of the subject on the memory scale.
As a constant that is a function of the subject's age.

The advantages of the memory scale, apart from its brevity, average around 15.
minutes your administration are:
a. Its relatively satisfactory standardization.
b. The fact that a variation of memory with age is allowed.
c. The fact that the memory quotients thus obtained are directly compared.
The latest is the most important because it makes the comparison of the problem of the
memory of the subject with its decrease in other intellectual functions.

The scale will be useful for detecting spatial memory deficits in individuals with lesions.
Specific Brain Organic and will provide a test of concrete value in the examination of some
of the soldiers and sailors returning with head injuries.

After reading the first selection say: 'What is it that I have read? Tell me everything.'
start at the beginning.
Rating:
Rate the number of ideas as they are marked in the protocol. After the first
selection is complete say:
Now I am going to read you another selection and see how much more you can remember from this listening.

The examiner reads the second selection and praises as before.
The final score is the average of the number of ideas reproduced in both passages.
Maximum score: 23

V.- Retention of digits

Digits forward:
Instructions: "I want to see how well you can pay attention to what I’m saying, I am going to tell you

some numbers and when I finish I want you to say it about me. Listen.
Rating: the score is the maximum number of digits repeated correctly.
Maximum score: 8

The three designs are given in order A, B, and C.
Instructions for A and B: 'I am going to show you a drawing, you will have 10 seconds'
Exactly to look at it then, and I'll take it away and you will draw it from memory. Don't start.
to draw until I tell you to stop. Get ready.
Instructions for C: "Here is one that is a little more difficult. This card has 2 drawings"
I want you to look at both carefully, you will have 10 seconds to see them and then
I will remove it. Do both drawings; the one on the left side (pointing to the space where the subject
you must make the drawing) and the right (pointing) ready.

Rating:
For A: 1.- Two crossed lines with 4 flags 1 point
2.- Correctly one in front of the other 1 point
3.- Accuracy (the lines almost identical
correctly intercepted, the angles
correct, the almost square flags 1 point
Maximum score: 3 points

For B: 1.- A large square with 2 diameters 1 point

2.- Four small squares inside of 1 point

4.- The figure correctly reproduced and in pro- 1 point
Approximate portion.
Maximum score: 4 points

Maximum score in all figures 15 points

VII.-Associated Learning
Instructions: “I am going to read you a list of words, two at a time. Listen carefully.
because after I finish, I will wait for you to remember the words that go together
For example, if the words are: East, West, Gold, silver, then when I say East I will wait
Let it say West. As soon as I say Gold, you will of course reply Silver.
understand
Now listen carefully to the list as I read it to you.
A couple of words are read every second.
After the First memory has been completed, 5 seconds are given to respond to the words.
associative, if the patient gives an incorrect associative, they are told it's correct and then proceed with

the words. After the first column has been completed, allow a gap
of 10" and give the list of the second presentation proceeding as before.
Repeat a second time making 3 presentations throughout the test.
