Introduction
SDS Manager uses a proxy agent, called JetAdvantage Management Connector (JAMC), which resides on the customer
network. In addition, SDS Manager will be providing a small agent residing locally on a client PC’s that interacts with
JAMC to monitor and manage USB connected printers. This agent, Smart Device Agent (SDA), will be a Windows Service
that fulfils requests from the JAMC to retrieve data from the printers and apply any designated changes. The SDA client
communicates with JAMC via an intranet connection. The SDA only acts upon instructions from JAMC (a resident proxy
agent in the customer’ network). JAMC then sends information back to SDS Manager for aggregation, analysis, and
prescriptive action (See figure below). Note that customers must have opted into this collection for JAMC to be in use. If
JAMC is not present, then the SDA client service will terminate itself until the next client PC reboot.
Please Note that A local JAMC is required for the configuration, HP Cloud DCA JAMC IS NOT compatible.

Device Specific Driver
We strongly recommend that device-specific
drivers are used whenever they are available (If
they are not available see page 5).
Download and install the model-specific
driver(s) using the download, and instructions
from the HP website:

Universal Print Driver
If device specific drivers are not available,
download the latest version of the HP
Universal Print Driver, using the download
and instructions from the HP website.

Universal Print Driver
Once the files have downloaded,
you’ll need to install them.
Locate the file within your
browser window and double-
click it to begin installation.
The file can also be located in
the ‘Downloads’ folder on your
computer.
We recommend restarting your
computer after installation.

Device Driver
Install the local printer on USB and make sure
it is using the device specific driver, or the HP
Device-Universal Print Driver (as explained in
the previous steps).

Edit the config file.
Against the “WellKnownServerName” key, enter
the hostname of the PC or server that the JAMC
and DCA are installed upon.
Against the “ClientSettingsProvider.ServiceUri”
key, enter the IP address or the hostname for the
PC or server that the JAMC and DCA are installed
upon. The port will also need to be entered.

HPSmartDeviceAgentBase Service
Go to the Services app and start the
HPSmartAgentBase service.
The agent will now start to communicate with the
JAMC instance, as detailed in the config file.
Please make sure that the firewalls between the
SDA host and the JAMC host are OPEN. Port TCP
12351 and Ports UDP 49001-49008 need to be
open with the remote port set to ALL PORTS. JAMC
will attempt to open all required ports upon
installation.
The service will check for updates and install the
full software package, this may take a few minutes.

If the service has been successful in
contacting the JAMC instance and
updating/installing, you will see the service
name change to HPSmartDeviceAgent.

also changed.

Open the new folder, and search for and open
the HPSmartDeviceAgent.exe config file.
Against the “WellKnownServerName” key,
enter the IP Address or hostname of the PC or
server that the JAMC and DCA are installed
upon (using the same values as in the
previous config file).
Against the “Server Addresses” key, enter the
IP Address or hostname of the PC or server
that the JAMC and DCA are installed upon
(using the same values as in the previous
config file).

Open the log file.
If the installation has been
successful you will see in the log
file that the service can
communicate with BOTH the
printer attached on USB001,
and the JAMC instance.
