The fast pace of modern day family life can make it easy to forget that simply just spending time
with our children is really important. Our time is one of the greatest things we can give them. There are
some reasons why you should make quality time a priority:
Firstly, spending time together builds children’s self-esteem. Children who spend time with their
parents participating in activities together build a positive sense of self-worth. When children feel that
they are valued by their parents, they feel more positive about themselves. Family activities don’t have to
be expensive trips out to be meaningful, the important part is just being together. You could go for a bike
ride or play a game together.
Families who share everyday activities together form strong, emotional bonds. Studies have found
that families who enjoy group activities together share a stronger emotional bond as well as an ability to
adapt well to situations as a family. You could share your favourite hobbies, sports, books, movies or
other favourite activities.
When you spend time with your children, you are developing an environment for open
communication. Good communication is important for your children to feel comfortable with talking
about anything. Asking how their day has gone can make a big difference.
Children learn by example. If you are setting a good example for them by spending quality time
together, they are more likely to adopt those behaviours in other relationships in their lives. Simple things
like playing games together will help them understand more about interacting with others as well as teach
them things like sharing and kindness.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the following questions.
Children who help out around the house with family chores will grow as a person. Confidence can
improve as your children learn and use their abilities to achieve a chore goal. Additionally, children can
learn to feel proud of their work when they are reminded that their chores help everyone in the family.
Working around the house and tackling new chores also teaches children life skills that will help them
stay on task and be productive for the rest of their lives.
When children take part in the family chore load, there are benefits for everyone. If chores are
divided equally, there will be more time for parents and children to spend time together once everyone’s
tasks are completed. Structure and routine can also help parents build their child’s self-control and, in
turn, reduces power struggles with parents. Children will begin feeling more successful and confident as
they master new chores, and everyone will feel proud of the work that’s done.

3
It’s important to keep a few things in mind when assigning chores to your kids. First and foremost,
keep chores age and developmentally appropriate and be specific with instructions when working with
younger children. Consistency and patience helps children take on new chore responsibilities, so stick
with the family plan!
Chores benefit children and parents alike. They are an important way for you to help children feel
like they are contributing members of the family household. This, in turn, helps them to learn a sense of
belonging and the value of being a contributing member of a group. This value can grow as they do. So,
whether through a school project, neighbourhood clean-up, showing up to soccer practice on time, or
serving lunch at the local soup kitchen, all of us benefit from children taking part in chores.

the questions.
Many people go through life only thinking about their own well-being and that of those around
them. In reality, the well-being of the environment is just as important in certain ways. Without a healthy
and sustainable environment, their own health and ability to leave behind a sustainable planet to those
who live after them is negatively affected. Therefore, two main environmental benefits can be realised
with greener living.
Firstly, people can conserve natural resources. The natural resources that man has been enjoying
are beginning to disappear. Due to population growth, it is estimated that the use of natural resources has
more than tripled since 1970. At that rate, it is not difficult to see how these same resources will
eventually become depleted. It is important to conserve those precious resources so that others after this
generation can enjoy the same quality of living on this planet.
Secondly, people can reduce the harmful effects of climate change. Primarily due to human’s
reliance on fossil fuels over the years, climate change is a real concern. People continue to release carbon
dioxide into the atmosphere, further polluting the air. This is leading to dramatic changes in temperatures
that need to be stopped. Greener living aims to do exactly that. For every person who makes an effort to
reduce his or her carbon footprint in the world, climate change can begin to become less of a concern over
time.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the questions.
In a statistical report released by WHO, around 13 million deaths happen each year due to
environmental issues. To make it worse, multiple diseases are a result of surviving in a low-quality
environment. Lung diseases, asthma, stroke, issues in the heart are some of the examples. Green living
such as making environment-friendly and sustainable food choices, energy conservation can help reduce
pollution to some extent.
Firstly, the consumption of healthier foods can contribute to reducing pollution. People can start
by consuming eco-friendly foods by buying from local farmers, buying organic and seasonal foods, etc.
They are made of fewer pesticides that go into human bodies. Too much exposure to pesticides harms the
natural hormones present in the human body and as a result, people face many health issues like lack of
immunity, hormonal changes and also cancer.
Secondly, through energy conservation, people are saving both natural resources as well as
money. The light bulbs and other electrical appliances that are available in the market produce 2.3 billion
tons of carbon dioxide, which pollutes the air severely. Today there are LED bulbs available in the
market that are eco-friendly and also save energy. Using such energy-efficient appliances reduces up to
30% of the annual electricity bill.

Nha Nhac, meaning “elegant music”, refers to a wide range of musical and dance styles performed
at the Vietnamese royal court from the fifteenth to the mid-twentieth century. Nha Nhac was generally
performed at the opening and closing of ceremonies associated with anniversaries, religious holidays,
funerals and so on. Among the numerous musical genres that developed in Viet Nam, only Nha Nhac is
popular on a nationwide scale and has strong links with the traditions of other East Asian countries.
During Nha Nhac performances, there were numerous singers, dancers and musicians dressed in gorgeous
costumes. Large-scale orchestras included a drum section and many other types of instruments like wind
and string instruments. All performers had to maintain a high level of concentration because they were
expected to follow each step of the ritual carefully.
Nha Nhac developed during the Le Dynasty (1427-1788) and reached the peak under the Nguyen
Dynasty (1802-1945). As a symbol of the dynasty’s power and longevity, Nha Nhac became an essential
part of the court’s many ceremonies. However, the role of Nha Nhac was not limited to musical
accompaniment for court rituals: it also provided a means of communicating with and showing respect to
the gods and kings as well as providing knowledge about nature and the universe.
The fall of the monarchy and the decades of war in 20th century seriously threatened the survival
of Nha Nhac and made this musical tradition lose its original function. However, the few surviving
former court musicians continue to work to keep the tradition alive. Certain forms of Nha Nhac have been
maintained in popular rituals and religious ceremonies and become a source of inspiration for
contemporary Vietnamese music.

It is commonly believed that music feeds the soul because it soothes your soul and relaxes your
mind. Music has always been the best source for expressing your feelings and emotions and telling
stories. Among all the popular genres of music, pop music has become the most popular one since it was
first introduced. The word ‘Pop’ itself is derived from ‘popular’. It was named so because it became so
popular right after its introduction.
Pop, as a separate genre, consists of simple patterns and rhythms. It is proved that the human brain
likes patterns, and the patterns that are easy to remember are more likeable than the difficult ones.
Patterns make the music more attractive and engaging, and easy and simple patterns are easy to pick,
which is why our brain likes them more. Additionally, patterns add to the rhythm of the song and its
music. Rhythms make us sing along and dance with the lyrics and beats of the music. Also, pop music
usually repeats its patterns, rhythms, and lyrics as well because most of the songs have the same themes
and topics. All this makes pop a popular genre among all.
It has been found that pop music is usually louder than the songs of other genres. It is believed
that the volume of these songs is kept louder than others on purpose. Pop songs sound louder than others
even if played on the same volume. Louder songs get the attention of people more easily and quickly as
sounds become catchier to the listeners. The louder and catchier a song is; the more attention it gets from
the audience. As more and more people listen to a song, its popularity increases. To conclude, the louder
you sound, the more you’re heard.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the questions.
Volunteering, especially when it’s done on a regular basis, can help you make new acquaintances.
Whether you volunteer for an organisation on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, over time you will
develop strong relationships, typically with other volunteers and staff members.
Regular volunteers may get these benefits to a greater degree than people who volunteer
infrequently. Consider this: Handing out water at a fundraising run in April and then helping in an
orphanage in November is surely easier to squeeze into a activities aren’t as likely to help you build
relationships over time.
There are benefits and drawbacks to every type of volunteering. For example, volunteering once
in a while is often easy to schedule and is something families or busy schedule than volunteering
regularly in an office. But those more convenient friends can do together. However, volunteers who take
part in occasionally may not feel very connected to the mission of the nonprofits they support or get to
know many other volunteers.
Regularly volunteering, on the other hand, makes it more likely that you will develop a deep
relationship to the cause and to other staff and volunteers. However, this kind of volunteering requires a
longer-term and bigger time commitment. It can also become frustrating if the volunteer’s duties aren’t a
good fit for them.
Still, if people are willing to work toward finding the right fit and making time in their schedules,
volunteering on a regular basis can help them get more out of their efforts, including new friends and
acquaintances.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the questions.
Firstly, the most common reason for not volunteering is lack of free time (about half of Americans
cite this as the main reason), and is that the volunteer schedules and commitments are too inflexible.
Therefore, a possible solution is to make volunteering more accessible and automatic. If working parents
are volunteering, it is most likely at their kids’ schools, which is a location they are already familiar with.
Employers could encourage volunteerism on-site or in a proximate location. Organisations could be
more flexible in the way they use volunteer work, including work that could be done at home, or during
evening or weekend hours.
Secondly, another very common reason is that people don’t have information about where to
volunteer, or if they do, the jobs are not meaningful or purposeful. While motivation to volunteer can vary
by age, with younger volunteers more motivated by future preparation (such as increasing skills,
knowledge, and advancing careers) and older volunteers more likely to cite social values as a reason for
volunteering, most people are motivated to volunteer by personal gratification and having a meaningful
experience. A solution would be for organisations who use volunteers to make sure they are matching the
skills and experience of their volunteers to the roles they have available. Making copies and coffee are
certainly not meaningful to most. Some organisations have a short interview process where they discuss
the background of the potential volunteer to closely match it to the needs they have.

From retail goods to food, 3D printing technology promises to change the way we think about
everyday things. It’s difficult to predict what impact it will have on manufacturing but, whatever the exact
effects, they are likely to be deep and long- lasting.
Also known as “additive manufacturing”, 3D printing refers to processes where an object is put
together by layering materials under programmed commands. Objects an be of almost any shape and are
produced from digital model data or other electronic data sources, such as an Additive Manufacturing
File.
The invention of 3D printing opens the way for manufacturers to significantly reduce the
production cost of their goods by eliminating many steps in the manufacturing process and the complete
production process, with 3D printing, what would have initially been a series of stages of production
could be cut down to a designer at one end, and the printer or “manufacturer” at the other.
Such reductions in the manufacturing process could affect both regional and international
production networks, possibly resulting in reduced capital requirements, warehousing and other logistics
and transportation needs. This change in production systems could potentially alter the very idea of
nations’ economic security. It could; for instance, destroy countries’ carefully laid development plans for
creating employment and investment in logistics and warehousing, regardless of economic development
level. What might happen to global production networks under such an influential technology?

production networks?
A. It could result in reduced international trade.
B. It could lead to a decline in the use of digital model data.
C. It might encourage countries to invest more in logistics and warehousing.
D. It might have negative effects on the existing production networks.
Question 38: What can be inferred about the potential effects of 3D printing on manufacturing?
A. The impacts of 3D printing on manufacturing are uncertain and unserious.
B. 3D printing has the potential to greatly reduce production costs.
C. 3D printing will not affect the traditional stages of production in manufacturing.
D. 3D printing is primarily used for producing digital model data.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the questions.
We all suffer from too little sleep from time to time, some more than others. There are many
possible reasons, depending on our age, genes and sleep habits; but another possible culprit is using
technology before going to sleep.
A 2011 survey found nine in ten people use some form of electronics in the hour before bed. This
ranges from playing video games and watching television, to using light-emitting e-readers, tablets and
smartphones. While these devices, especially light-emitting e-readers, seem harmless enough, the light
they emit may affect our sleep patterns and leave us feeling tired the next day. Light exposure can
directly influence sleep and the timing of sleep by acting on our body clock.
One way light exposure may impact sleep and our body clock is by affecting the production of
melatonin during the night. Melatonin is a “sleep” hormone produced in the brain. Melatonin levels begin
to increase around two hours before bed (around 9 p.m. for someone who usually goes to bed around 11
p.m.) to help to sleep. Exposure to light during the evening hours can inhibit the production of melatonin,
so that melatonin production happens later in the night. Using the example above, melatonin levels may
only start to increase around 10 p.m., which may delay your sleep until around midnight.
The most obvious thing to do is to reduce the use of light-emitting electronic devices prior to
bedtime, or at least within the hour before sleep. For adolescents and adults who are less willing to stop
using electronic devices, there are some applications that can change the amount of blue light that is
emitted. It’s probably not a good idea to rely on these applications too heavily. My advice would be to
buy a book or choose an e-reader that doesn’t emit light. Try to reduce the amount of light you are
exposed to in the evenings. Who knows, you may even find it more relaxing!

On this World Elephant Day, WWF is launching the Asian Elephant Alliance (AEA) to secure a
future in which loss of elephant habitats is reduced, people and elephants live side by side in a sustainable
way, and wild elephant populations are stable. The Alliance calls for partnership and action with other
organisations as it acknowledges that the challenges faced by the elephants in the region cannot be solved
in isolation. Improved research, monitoring, protection and management are the key focused areas of
AEA.
Elephants are globally endangered, particularly threatened in Southeast Asia and China, with only
about 8,000 - 11,000 wild Asian elephants spread across eight countries - Cambodia, southern China,
Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Out of those nations, Viet Nam has the
fewest wild elephants left, with an estimated population of just over 100 nationwide.
In Viet Nam, WWF will bring in resources to achieve three missions of the AEA: Securing
Elephant Habitats, which focuses on protecting, managing and restoring elephant habitats; Living with
Elephants, which aims manage human-elephant conflict in a friendly manner for human-elephant
coexistence; and Restoring Elephant Populations, which looks to bring elephant populations in the
country up to stable levels through enhancing protection efforts and improving wildlife management.

Prevention and responding to violence against children is an important aspect of UNICEF’s work
to strengthen Viet Nam’s child protection system. Through playing leading roles in legal reforms and
child protection system development, UNICEF is making key contributions to address all forms of
violence against children in daily settings - such as schools, homes and communities - and across the
education, health and welfare sectors.
A key area of UNICEF’s work to eliminate all forms of violence against children is building on
the new Child Law that came into effect in 2017. This ground-breaking law spells out the responsibility
of the government to use resources for children at risk and introduces for the first time an approach that
takes aim at preventing violence against children before it happens and responding to violence when it
happens. UNICEF is working with the government and provincial authorities to build a child protection
system that responds to the multiple causes and forms of violence.
Strengthening the capacity and responsibilities of parents and families to end violent discipline in
the home is a crucial UNICEF focus and involves development of parenting education and delivery of
social care services to support families to deal with factors that lead to violence against children. Parents
and families are also being supported to offer the protection from violence to help children to make a safe
transition to kindergarten and primary school.

the following questions.
Domestic and family violence has short and long-term physical, emotional, psychological,
financial and other effects on women.
The obvious physical effects of domestic and family violence on women are physical injury and
death. Yet there are also other effects on women’s physical health - such as physical exhaustion, and
reproductive health problems - that are not necessarily the result of physical injuries.
Women experiencing domestic and family violence are more likely to experience depression,
anxiety and sleeping disorders. They have higher stress levels and are at greater risk of suicide attempts.
They are at increased risk of misusing alcohol and other drugs.
Women who experience domestic and family violence are often unable to make their own choices
because of fear and intimidation. They often live in fear of further violence. They are frequently silenced
and unable to express their point of view or experience.
Women who experience domestic and family violence often experience social isolation, including
from their own extended family. Isolation can be a form of controlling behaviour or a consequence of
women’s stress, anxiety, shame, physical injuries and fear.
Seeing the effects of violence on their children can be worrying for women. They may feel or be
unable to protect their children; this can have serious effects on their identity and confidence as mothers.
Women’s ability to parent their children can be affected by the physical, emotional and cognitive effects
of their own experiences of the violence, and by men’s attempts to undermine their confidence and
ability as mothers.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the following questions.
Women are still faced with gender bias, and this is also the case in our workplaces. Sure, many
companies are really trying hard to promote equality and diversity, but women are still dominating lower-
paying and administrative positions while men are continuing to hold positions at the management and
executive level.
It is clear that gender inequality is hurting our companies’ performances. More and more women
have come to amazing achievements over the past decades, shattering gender-related barriers in just
about every aspect of our lives.
These days, more and more young women choose a career in a traditionally male- dominated
sector such as technology, engineering, business, or trades. More women are running for public or
political office than ever before, and more and more women are setting up their own business or getting
educated in fields like aviation or aerospace. Let’s also hope that after the upcoming midterms, we’ll see
many more women elected to the house.
No longer do young women have to choose between family and marriage or a high- powered
career. Today’s women want it all, just like counterparts from the other sex. At the same time, we can see
only a few succeed in reaching their goals, just a few.
So while more and more women are entering the employment market and breaking down all sorts
of gender barriers, they continue to be less or under-represented in management, executive, or other
senior positions. We see these sorts of differences also in sports. This all happens despite the fact that
numerous studies have shown that companies will perform far better when well-educated women become
part of their management and executive teams.

For young people who were in university during the COVID-19 pandemic, the university
experience was suddenly different to what they had expected.
One theme that came through from students is that online teaching should be more interactive.
One student said that educators should “be more interactive with students outside of just providing digital
lectures to ensure there are still some sort of personal connections being made”.
Some female students faced greater challenges than their male counterparts with the shift to
virtual learning. Mature female students were affected the most, with many noting that extra
responsibilities, such as caring for children or disabled family members, made things more difficult for
them. Some mature female students also didn’t feel properly equipped for using online learning tools.
Another student highlighted the cost of devices, and noted that “it seems if you don’t have a laptop you
will struggle to pass”.
The changes to the university experience during the pandemic were particularly hard on students
from overseas. International students mentioned problems such as a lack of access to suitable study areas,
not knowing where to go for mental health support, feeling isolated, struggling to focus, a lack of
direction, and the difficulty of being away from their families at home affected by COVID-19.
Findings about university students’ experiences during the pandemic will hopefully be useful for
universities continuing to teach fully or partially online.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the following questions.
Online learning divides opinion like few other issues in the world of higher education. Despite
claims about the equality in education through free online university courses and open educational
resources, some potential students are being left on the wrong side of the digital divide. Learners need not
only the physical connections to the Internet and appropriate hardware, but also the familiarity with
technology to make online learning work. Universities and governments need to do more to improve
access to these resources or risk leaving some of the most disadvantaged students behind.
Governments and universities must understand that online learning needs to be available,
preferably 24/7 on as many devices as possible, to meet the diverse geographical, cultural and resource
needs of our students. Moreover, the government has got it right with the National Broadband Network: it
provides the essential service of fast, widespread broadband access and leaves it to individual users and/
or organisations to decide how best to use it for their own needs. Flexible learning demands that
governments and educational institutions at all levels engage directly with target communities, giving
them the required resources, yet allowing them the freedom to use the resources to meet specific needs.
Online learning can address some forms of educational inequity, but it can also have some
drawbacks. Like access to private schooling, online learning comes with a cost barrier. Those who can
afford smarter technology, better and faster connectivity and 24-hour access will benefit while those who
can’t, will not enjoy the same quality of access.
We have to decide, as a society, whether high-quality online learning is a privilege or a
fundamental right.

Millions of animals are killed by plastics every year, from birds to fish to other marine organisms.
Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by plastics. Nearly every
species of seabird eats plastics.
Most of the deaths to animals are caused by starvation. Seals, whales, turtles, and other animals
are trapped by fishing nets. Microplastics have been found in more than 100 marine species, including
fish and shrimp which are for our dinner plates. In many cases, these tiny bits pass through the digestive
system and are released without consequence. But plastics have also been found to have blocked digestive
organs, causing death. Stomachs packed with plastics reduce the urge to eat, causing starvation.
Plastics have been consumed by land-based animals, including elephants, zebras, tigers, cattle, and
other large mammals, in some cases causing death.
Tests have also confirmed damage to liver and reproductive systems, causing some species, such
as oysters, to produce fewer eggs. New research shows that fish are eating nanoplastics in the first days of
life, raising new questions about the effects of plastics on fish populations.

Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They help people thrive and survive by, for
example, purifying water and air and providing people with jobs; some 13.2 million people across the
world have a job in the forest sector and another 41 million have a job that is related to the sector. Many
animals also rely on forests. Forests are home to more than three-quarters of the world’s life on land.
Forests also play a critical role in reducing climate change because they act as a carbon sink - soaking up
carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes in
climate.
But forests around the world are under threat, which affects these benefits. The threats are
deforestation and forest degradation. The main cause of deforestation is agriculture (poorly planned
infrastructure is developing as a big threat too) and the main cause of forest degradation is illegal tree-
cutting. In 2019, the tropics lost close to 30 soccer fields’ worth of trees every single minute.
Deforestation is a particular concern in tropical rain forests because these forests are home to
much of the world’s biodiversity. For example, in the Amazon around 17% of the forest has been lost in
the last 50 years, mostly due to forest change for cattle raising. Deforestation in this region is particularly
common in more populated areas, roads and rivers, but even remote areas have been polluted when
valuable gold and oil are discovered.

the questions.
Eco-tourism brings curiosity - about both environment and experience. Instead of going to popular tourist
destinations like China, Italy, Spain and Germany, vacationers are expanding their searches and
destinations.
More destinations mean more opportunities for employment within indigenous populations of
lower-income communities and countries. Locals act as guides, experts, sellers and hosts to visiting
tourists. Increased traffic means more money pouring directly back into the community along with a
higher standard of living.
Community tourism allows people from all over the world to come into a poor community and
restore it by providing services and support. In one aspect, a vacation could mean volunteering, building
or serving in a poor community. Another impact would come from engaging experiences in the lives of
indigenous peoples that protect their culture and environment.
Plus, taking some press away from the typical tourist destinations means that some pressure is
taken off the surrounding environment and ecosystems. The money that results and is saved from
releasing the environmental pressures is put back into conservation and preservation efforts.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of
the questions.
The pandemic hit the tourism industry with a steep 74% decline in international travel. Many
countries had lockdowns in place to prevent COVID-19 transmission from foreign places. While this
contributed to a significant drop in carbon emissions in 2020, tourist-dependent nations suffered huge
economic losses.
Three years after, the pandemic is finally winding down and international travel is continuing,
with air traffic set to reach 2019 levels soon. Last year saw a 153% increase in air travel compared to
2021 and about 62% pre-pandemic levels. In 2023, air traffic is expected to continue rising as most
countries lift restrictions.
The comeback of tourism means the same will happen in terms of emissions. In 2022, GHG
emissions increased by 7% in the first quarter compared to 2020.
It is critical to practise ecotourism as global warming becomes clearer. You’ll benefit from
learning and becoming a better friend to the environment. Ecotourism comes with many benefits. Firstly,
the most significant benefit of ecotourism is educating yourself on environmental issues. If you find ways
to be environmentally conscious on your trip, you are more likely to repeat those behaviours at home.
Moreover, sustainable travel means using natural and renewable resources to improve the planet’s health.
You’re protecting the environment around you from the negative impacts of travel. If you believe in
leaving something better than when you found it, ecotourism is the way to go.
