Microscopic pictures shows admixture of mature
woven and lamellar bone with haversian like canals of
various size and shape. Dx: osteoma
Discrete oval mass of reddish brown tissue which
located largely within the cortex and partially in
medullary cavity .Dx: osteoid osteoma (gross)
Delicate anastomosing network of thin bony trabeculae
with variable mineralization, the space between the
trabeculae is occupied by vascular connective tissue
instead bone marrow elements. Dx: osteoid osteoma
Higher magnification show osteoblast lining the
trabeculae of woven bone
Expansile lytic lesions with a sclerotic rim. Xray—Ct
scan. Dx: osteoblastoma
Anastomosing bony trabeculae separated by loose
fibrovascular stroma . Dx:osteoblastoma
Osteoblastoma
The classic x-ray findings of osteosarcoma are
Codman triangle (periosteal elevation),
"sunburst“ pattern, and bone destruction.
AP view show destructive lesion with admixture of lytic
and sclerotic areas, elevation of periosteum by the
proliferating tumor(codman triangle) Dx: osteosarcoma
Tumor is located in femoral metaphysis it extend into
medullary cavity the tumor has breached the cortex
producing a bulky soft tissue mass.Dx:Osteosarcoma
The neoplastic pleomorphic cells of osteosarcoma are
shown to be making pink osteoid.
The neoplastic pleomorphic cells of osteosarcoma are
shown to be making pink osteoid. Osteoid production
by a sarcoma is diagnostic of an osteosarcoma
X ray shows Pedunculated mass at the lower end of the
femur Dx: osteochondroma
Gross picture show mass has a thick cartilagenous cap
with smooth round surface. osteochondroma
Osteochondroma, microscopic
Shown here is a benign cartilaginous cap on the left
with underlying bony cortex on the right.

Chondrocytes lie in lacunae and have small, round, regular
nuclei. They are arranged single or in small clusters with
intervening blue myxoid matrix. Dx: Chonroma
Pleomorphic nuclei in myxoid A background
Dx: chondrosarcom
Giant cell tumors of bone are composed of osteoclast-
like multinucleated giant cells in a sea of round-to-oval
mononuclear stromal cells.
Metastases, gross
This sagittal section of vertebral bone at autopsy shows
multiple foci of pale and irregular metastatic tumor.
