İngilizce’de şimdiki zaman hem isim cümleleri hem de fiil cümlelerinden meydana gelebilir. İsim
cümlelerinde bir fiil bulunmadığından fiilin görevini yerine getiren “yardımcı fiil” “to be” bulunur. Örneğin:
“She is 21 years old.” “To be” yardımcı fiilinin şimdiki zaman çekimi özneye göre değişir, am – is – are
ve cümlede her zaman özneden sonra 2. Pozisyondadır. Örneğin:
I am a teacher.
He is ………………….
She is a nurse.
It is ………………
We are happy.
Sorularda yardımcı fiil olan am – is – are öznenin önüne getirilir. Olumsuz cümlelerde ise “am – is –

I usually walk to university because I don’t live far. I leave the flat at 8:30 and I arrive at my university
at around 8:50. My classes start at 9am. This semester, I am studying Trigonometry, Drafting and
Physics. Trigonometry is very difficult.
I always eat lunch with my classmates in the cafeteria at 1pm. The food is quite good there! After my
classes, I sometimes go to the library to study or do an assignment. It’s nice and peaceful at the
