a) What are artificial stones?
b) Define: Abrasion Resistance, Flakiness Index and hydration.
c) Differentiate between Paint and Distemper.
d) What are the major classifications of stones? Give 2 examples in each.
e) What are the different methods of plastering?
f) List any four qualities of good timber.

a) Explain the term of consolidated concrete.
b) What are the advantageous and disadvantageous of concrete block masonry over
brick masonry?
c) Differentiate between Portland Cement and white cement.
d) What are the various tests which can be performed on the mortar?
e) What do you mean by ceramic materials and its application?
f) Explain Batching in detail.

a) A hospital building is under construction. Being a civil engineer, what are the
various building services you have to keep in mind for the hospital building?
b) Explain the manufacturing procedure of cement.
c) What is meant by Seasoning of timber? What are its objects?

a) Why is the cube strength different from the cylinder strength for the same grade
of concrete?
b) What is paint? Describe the various ingredients of oil with function of each.
c) Explain the procedure of cement by wet process with the help of flow diagram.

a) What is the difference between Mirrored glass and Obscure glass?
b) What properties you would consider in choosing stone for building construction
in an industrial area subject to heavy rains? Name types of stones which you
consider preferable?
c) A two storied bungalow with open verandah and flat root is to be constructed in
Uttarakhand. Briefly describe type of construction and materials for roots and floors
you will Propose. Discuss the various damp-proof systems you suggest. Also, give
the major considerations which are to be made in providing Plumbing and electrical
services in the building.
