1 General OpenLab CDS Driver Information

Operating Systems

All instrument drivers are supported on the following OS unless otherwise noted
 Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise and Professional (64-bit)
 Windows 10 Enterprise and Professional (64-bit)

Instrument Driver types

Agilent OpenLab CDS drivers are based on the RC.Net architecture. Information in
this guide refers to this driver type, unless otherwise noted.
RC.Net interface version 3.2.1 is integrated with this version of ChemStation.

NOTE Instrument driver versions must always match in a network system

For single quad Mass Spectrometer, only “Classic Plus” drivers are available with
OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition. The Classic Plus driver types can be combined
with RC.Net drivers via their CIC ports.

 General OpenLab CDS Driver Information

Firmware Revisions

Agilent recommends using the most recent firmware revisions to provide the
highest level of system capability.
Agilent and other vendors may release RC.net drivers independent of the OpenLab
CDS ChemStation Edition releases. Agilent driver software is forward compatible
regarding firmware, i.e. the firmware can be updated without the need of updating
the driver or CDS.

To check the firmware of your instrument, do the following:

2 Agilent HPLC and LC Instrument

Compatibility

OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition can control all Agilent LC modules in support
using LC driver release 3.0 or higher.
The tables in this chapter list the supported LC modules. Please note that using
some driver features require current firmware versions such as valve-thermostat
clusters or new temperature control modes.

Recommended Firmware for Agilent HPLC/LC

Modules

Agilent recommends using current LC firmware sets with your OpenLab CDS
ChemStation Edition.
The latest LC firmware sets are 7.01, 6.50, and 6.30.
Some of the modules are supported with firmware revisions lower than the ones
available in the current firmware set. Please see the respective Release Note for
Agilent LC and CE drivers for more information.

 Agilent HPLC and LC Instrument Compatibility

NOTE LC and CE firmware revisions are grouped into sets for each module or system.
Firmware sets include just the latest firmware of each module.
Modules of one LC instrument always need to have firmware from the same set.
Firmware of one set is fully compatible with your CDS that supports this firmware
set. However, if one module uses an older firmware revision newly added
functionality might not be supported.
Do not mix firmware revisions from one set with older or newer sets. Firmware is
not tested across set borders!

latest Agilent LC firmware.

For more information, please see the respective LC driver release notes. The
Release Notes for Agilent LC and CE drivers (ReleaseNotes_Driver_LC-CE.pdf) is
available on your software media.
You only need to upgrade ALL existing modules if
 A new LC module is added to the existing system (recommended)
 One of the existing modules requires an upgrade due to a bug fix solved with
the latest release.

Please note that the LC Driver releases are independent from CDS Releases.

Supported Agilent HPLC/LC Modules

The listed Agilent LC modules are supported to be controlled with OpenLab CDS
ChemStation Edition unless stated otherwise. Only RC.net drivers are supported,
unless stated otherwise.
The Agilent LC-drivers are backwards compatible. Modules with identical product
numbers are supported, even if the tables below list only the name of the current
model version. 1100 Series models are supported on a best effort basis only.

NOTE When OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition is used to control an Agilent 3D Capillary
Electrophoresis system, no additional instruments are supported on the PC system.

When OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition is used to control the Agilent LC/MS, in
conjunction with the Agilent 3D Capillary Electrophoresis system, no additional
instruments are supported on the PC system (the one PC controls only the CE and
MS system).

CE/MS systems are supported with OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition when
configured as CE/MS system, workstation, and networked workstation only. Co-
installation is possible, but no Co-execution.

8 OpenLab CDS ChemStation Workstation VL

Overview

OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition offers a VL version for Workstations. It

provides the full functionality of the Workstation configuration while
restricting instrument control to one LC or GC instrument only. In addition,
it restricts the use of the instruments to standard modules. LC/MS
configurations are not supported.
The supported modules and firmware options for VL Systems are listed in
more detail the following tables.

OpenLab CDS ChemStation Workstation VL rev. C.01.10

Allows control of one of the below instruments:
 One 1260 Isocratic Infinity (II) LC system, or one 1260 Quaternary
Infinity (II) LC system with selected 1260 Infinity (II) LC modules (see
table 5).
NOTE 1290 series LC modules are not compatible with VL.

 One Agilent 1220 Infinity LC System or one 1120 Compact LC.

Control of supplemental Infinity LC modules is supported except for
modular pumps.

 One 8860 GC, 7820A GC, or one Micro GC instrument.

With exception of the MSD drivers, classic drivers are not supported with
ChemStation C.01.10.
