PROJECT PLAN IN SEWING
I.Project Proponent: Alliah G. Verde-flor
II. Project Title: Pillow Case (20x26)
III. Objectives:
1. To create a standard-size pillowcase (20x26 inches) using hand sewing
techniques.
2. To develop basic sewing skills, including measuring, cutting, pinning, and
hand stitching.
3. To understand fabric handling and finishing methods.
4. To complete a functional and aesthetically pleasing finished product.

V. Procedures:
The procedure for hand-sewing a standard 20x26 inch pillowcase involves
several steps, focusing on neatness and durability, especially since a sewing
machine is not being used.
1. Prepare Fabric
2. Cut Fabric
-for a Standard 20x26 inch pillowcase, cut two identical pieces of fabric,
each measuring 21 inches wide by 29.5 inches long. This accounts for a 0.5-
inch seam allowance on three sides and extra length for the hem.
-Alternatively, if using a single piece of fabric and folding it, cut one piece 42
inches wide by 29.5 inches long, then fold it in a half lengthwise to create a 21-
inch wide piece
3. Prepare the Hem (Opening Edge):
On one of the 21-inch wide edges of each fabric piece (or the open
21-inch edge if using a folded piece), fold the raw edge over by 0.5
inches towards the wrong side of the fabric and press
Fold it over again by 2.5 to 3 inches and press firmly. This creates a
double-folded hem, which encloses the raw edge and provides a
clean finish
Secure the hem with pins.
4. Hand-Sew the Hem:
Using a running stitch hem stitch, carefully hand-sew along the inner folded
edge of the hem.
5. Assemble the Pillowcase:
Place the two fabric pieces right sides together, aligning all raw edges
and the finished hems. If using a single folded piece, simply fold it
right sides together.
Pin along the three raw edges (the two long sides and the bottom
short side), leaving the hemmed opening unpinned.
6. Hand-Sew the Sides and Bottom:
Starting from the hemmed opening, use a backstitch or a small,
strong running stitch to sew a seam 0.5 inches from the raw edge
along both long sides and the bottom short side.
For added durability and to prevent fraying, consider using a French
seam technique. This involves sewing the seam with wrong sides
together first, trimming the seam allowance, then turning the fabric
right sides together and sewing again to enclose the raw edges. If not
using a French seam, a whipstitch or overcast stitch can be used to
finish the raw edges of the seams to prevent fraying.
Finish and Press:
Once all three sides are sewn, trim any excess threads.
Clip the corners diagonally close to the stitching (but not through it) to reduce
bulk when turned right side out.
Turn the pillowcase right side out and gently push out the corners to form a neat
shape.
Give the entire pillowcase a final press with an iron to smooth out any wrinkles
and set the seams.
