Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City, Cebu
Executive Summary
This project proposal aims to establish a small-scale backyard swine fattening business in
Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City, Cebu. The primary goal is to provide a sustainable source of income
while supporting the local pork and lechon industries that Carcar City is well known for. The project
will begin with two (2) fattening pigs raised over a 4- to 5-month cycle.
Project Background
Carcar City is a thriving center for pork and lechon production in Cebu Province. Backyard hog
raising plays a vital role in meeting local pork demand. With proper feeding and care, swine
fattening is a profitable venture for small farmers. This project will utilize locally available materials
and feeds to minimize cost and ensure sustainability.
Project Objectives
1. To start a small backyard swine fattening enterprise with two (2) piglets.
2. To generate income for household and local livelihood support.
3. To contribute to Carcar City’s pork supply chain, particularly for lechon and meat vendors.
4. To serve as a model livelihood project for other residents of Barangay Ocaña.
Technical Aspects
The project will involve the construction of a small pigpen made of concrete flooring, bamboo walls,
and GI sheet roofing. Each pig will have approximately 1.2m x 1.2m of space. Clean water, proper
drainage, and good ventilation will be ensured. Feeding will follow a three-phase program: starter,
grower, and finisher feeds. Regular deworming, vaccination, and sanitation will be conducted to
maintain pig health.
Budget Breakdown
Item Description Estimated Cost (■)
Piglets 2 heads @ ■4,000 each 8,000
Feeds Starter, grower, and finisher feeds (total 5 months) 29,400
Housing Materials Bamboo, concrete, GI sheets, troughs 10,000
Medicines & Vitamins Vaccines, deworming, antibiotics 1,500
Utilities & Miscellaneous Water, electricity, cleaning materials 1,000
TOTAL CAPITAL ■49,900
Financial Projection
Assuming each pig reaches 100 kg live weight and sells at ■210 per kg, total sales will amount to
■42,000. After deducting total expenses of ■49,900, the first cycle may have minimal or
break-even profit, but subsequent cycles will yield profit since housing is already available.
Estimated profit per cycle (after setup) is ■6,000–■8,000.
Implementation Timeline
Month Activities
Month 1 Construct pigpen, purchase 2 piglets, begin feeding (starter feed).
Month 2–3 Switch to grower feeds, deworm and vaccinate.
Month 4–5 Switch to finisher feeds, clean regularly, contact buyers.
Month 5–6 Sell pigs at 90–110 kg liveweight.
Request for LGU Assistance
In support of this livelihood project, the proponent respectfully requests assistance from the Carcar
City Local Government through its Agriculture Office for possible provision of any of the following:
• Two (2) piglets as start-up livestock
• Starter or grower feeds for the first month
• Veterinary support and technical advice
• Training on backyard swine management
Any assistance extended will greatly help in sustaining this small-scale livelihood project and
contribute to local food and income security for Barangay Ocaña residents.
Conclusion
This backyard swine fattening project presents a practical, low-cost livelihood opportunity for a
resident of Barangay Ocaña. With LGU support and proper management, it can provide consistent
income, promote responsible livestock raising, and strengthen Carcar City’s agricultural economy.
