1. Read this text about the Ancient Greeks and answer the questions .

There were many small cities in Ancient Greece. One of the most important cities was
Corinth, but the largest city was Athens, the capital. Athens was the political and cultural
centre. Corinth was a commercial city. The people in Corinth city became very rich when
they started to sell the cups and plates they made all over the Greek world; they were
excellent businessmen.
Athens city was an amazing place with beautiful buildings and great cultural life.
However, not all the people in Athens lived in the city centre. Some of them built their
houses near the mountains and green valleys to grow fruit; others lived by the sea because they were
fishermen and worked on ships.
While the men were working the crops, sailing, hunting or doing business, the women had to stay at
home. Ancient Greek husbands were very strict men, so they didn’t let their wives go out much. Sometimes
the husband told his servants to watch the house and check his wife and daughter didn’t go out alone. Life
was a bit difficult for young girls too: they had to help their mothers with the housework all day and they
could only leave the house when they got married. This made them feel very unhappy.
Boys were luckier than girls: they didn’t help in the house, and they could go to school and see their friends.
The Ancient Greeks loved reading stories and fables. One favourite family activity was to get together to
hear these stories every weekend. They always enjoyed their meals in the garden while the father or the
mother told fantastic stories to their children and servants.
Servants were very important to Ancient Greek daily life. They cleaned and cooked, worked in the fields,
factories, shops, and on ships. However, there were things a servant could not do, for example, go to school,
or use their own(propio) name. They had to use the name of their master.
