BITUMEN PAVEMENT
General
Contractor shall seat the surface of the
improved roads as per Company approved
design report. Surfacing material may
include Single Surface Treatment, Double
Surface Treatment, or a Hot Mix Asphalt
Concrete
Contractor shall furnish all plant, labor,
materials, tools, equipment, transportation,
and perform all operations and incidentals
necessary for completing the Services.
Materials
All bitumen used in the Services shall be the
grade specified for the purpose; prime coat,
tack coat, double surface treatment, or hot
‘mix asphalt, Contractor shall submit copies
of material test reports signed by the
manufacturer. Test reports shall indicate the
vendor's name, type and grade of bitumen,
quantity delivered, ticket number, purchase

Kilogram sample of each aggregate; coarse,
fine, & mineral filler, shall be submitted to
Company for Approval
Coarse aggregate shall be screened crushed
rock, angular in shape with at least three
manufactured faces. It shall have a
weighted loss of not greater than 12
(twelve) percent when subjected to five
eycles of the soundness test, ASTM C88,
using sodium sulfate, or 18 (eighteen)
percent when using magnesium sulfate.
Fine aggregate shall be non-plastic and
shall be either clean sand or quarry
sereenings.
Mineral filler shall be rock dust, limestone
dust, hydrated lime, hydraulic cement, or
other material approved by Company with
at least 70 (seventy) percent by weight
passing the number 200 sieve.
‘The gradation of the mix shall be dependent

Distributor truck shall be equipped with a
tachometer of the auxiliary wheel which
registers speed in meters per minute,
calibration charts and devices to provide for
accurate and rapid determination of the
amount of bitumen being applied, 2 hose
and nozzle attachment to be used for areas
inaccessible to the spray bar, a pressure
gauge for determining the application
pressure, and a thermometer to determine
the temperature of the bitumen.
Contractor shall maintain distributors and
booster tanks to prevent any dripping of
bitumen from any part of the equipment.
Spray bars shall have a minimum length of
2.7 (two and seven tenths) meters and shall
be adjustable to permit varying the height
above the surface to be treated.
‘The nozzles attached to the bar shall be
either conical or flat slotted and shall not
exceed 150 (one hundred and fifty)
millimeters from center to center.
The distributor equipment shall be capable
of spreading a uniform application of
bitumen ranging from 0.1 (one tenth) of a

Self Propelled Paver. Contractor shall
spread hot mix asphelt concrete with a self
propelled paving machine in a single
continuous operation. The machine shall be

capable of being accurately regulated and

to a definite predetermined thickness.
Asphalt concrete shall not be laid in layers
