The ISF Academy Faculty Profile 2024-25 Head of School
Dr. Malcolm PRITCHARD, Head of School
Dr. Malcolm Pritchard became the Head of School of The ISF Academy in
August 2009. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation and
The ISF Pre-School. Dr. Pritchard has a Bachelor of Arts in Asian History
and Politics from Queensland University, a Master of Arts (Information
Technology Applications in Chinese Language) and a Graduate Diploma of
Education from Monash University. He was awarded a Ph.D. by The
University of Melbourne for his research into experiential learning.
Dr. Pritchard has served as the founding Chairman of the Association of
Chinese and Mongolian International Baccalaureate Schools. He has also
served as a member of the International Baccalaureate Asia Pacific
Regional Council; he was appointed as a trustee of the Council of
Internationally Accredited Schools Australia and the Council of International
Schools, a noted global school accreditation body; he was also appointed
as one of the founding governors for the Shenzhen Mingde Experimental
School. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators (FACE), a
Fellow of the Australian Institute of Managers and Leaders (FIML), and a
Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Dr. Pritchard is fluent in Putonghua and prior to joining this school was the
Principal of Kormilda College an independent IB school in Darwin, Australia.
He was formerly Deputy Principal of Caulfield Grammar School in
Melbourne, Australia, and served for 8 years as the Founding Head of the
school’s Chinese language and cultural immersion campus in Nanjing.
Caulfield’s Nanjing campus is a highly regarded model of experiential
education in a language immersion context. Prior to this, Dr. Pritchard was
Head of Chinese at Melbourne Grammar School and served in the Royal
Australian Air Force, including postings to Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Mr. Victor SIU, Director of Operations
Mr. Victor Siu is a seasoned strategic, management and finance
professional with over 20 years of experience, spanning Hong Kong,
mainland China, Asia, Canada, and the US. In 2020, he joined ISF as the
Head of Finance, overseeing all aspects of financial operations and
budgeting for the entire ISF group.
Victor came to ISF having held key roles in private commerce and at the
Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong, helping to
implement measures to reduce systemic risks and ensure financial stability
for listed companies and market participants. Prior to the SFC, he served
as the Department Head of KPMG's Transaction Advisory Services in Hong
Kong, specializing in cross-border financial due diligence and advisory
services for Mergers and Acquisitions across various industries in Asia.
Victor's professional journey began at PricewaterhouseCoopers in
Canada, and he holds the designations of Chartered Accountant (Canada)
and Certified Public Accountant (Hong Kong).

Primary School
Ms. Ning SHAN, Primary Principal
Ms. Shan Ning joined The ISF Academy in August 2008 as the Deputy
Head of the Primary Division and was promoted to Primary Head in August
2009. She has a Master of Arts in Education from Capital Normal University
and a Bachelor of Arts from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Ms. Shan taught Chinese and Moral Education for more than 10 years at a
local school in Beijing before becoming Headmistress of the renowned
Jingyuan School Primary Branch in Beijing. After a year there, she was
selected to be the first Headmistress of Shijingshan Foreign Language
Experimental Primary School in Beijing, a new government school for
students from ages 5 to 12, where she spent six years before joining the
Academy.

Ms. Kate BURDEN, Deputy Principal (Primary English)
Ms. Kate Burden joined The ISF Academy in 2024 as the Deputy Principal
(Primary English). She holds a joint degree in English and Drama from the
University of Bristol, a PGCE from The University of Sunderland and
Masters in Educational Leadership from The Open University in the UK.
Kate is also embarking on her doctorate in Education, focused on Chinese-
English bilingual learning.
Prior to joining the Academy, Kate has been working in education for more
than 25 years. She has worked in pioneering dual language (Chinese-
English) schools across mainland China and internationally. She has held
a variety of classroom and leadership roles including Associate Dean of
Curriculum, Director of English and Associate Division Head. She has a
deep passion for, and experience in, bilingualism and biliteracy, curriculum
and leadership.

Ms. Hsiao-tzu CHIANG, Deputy Principal (Primary Chinese)
Ms. Hsiao-tzu Chiang joined The ISF Academy in 2007. She graduated
from Fu Jen University in Taiwan with a Bachelor degree in Sociology and
completed her Master program at the University of Chinese Culture in
Taiwan, specializing in Journalism. Ms. Chiang has worked with the
Academy’s Primary school department for many years. She possesses
great knowledge towards the Primary School’s curriculum and teaching
methods and has displayed great affection towards Primary School
teaching.

Mr. Ho-Lun HUYNH, Assistant Principal
Mr. Ho Lun Huynh joined The ISF Academy in March 2008 as an English
teacher. He was appointed as the Head of Information Technology
(Primary) in 2014. He received his Bachelor of Education in the Primary
and Junior Division from OISE, University of Toronto and his Bachelor of
Science degree from the University of Toronto, Canada.
Mr. Huynh grew up in Toronto and moved to Hong Kong in 2008. Before
joining the Academy, he was teaching in Hong Kong and in Toronto as a
primary school teacher.

Mr. Scott PANICO, Assistant Principal
Mr. Scott Panico joined The ISF Academy in August 2022 as Assistant
Principal in the Primary Division. He received his Bachelor of Education
(Junior Primary and Primary) from the University of South Australia and a
Master of Education (Studies of Asia) from Flinders University, Australia.
Mr. Panico brought over 18 years of extensive teaching experience from
international schools in Denmark, Italy and China. He has spent the last
decade of his career teaching in Hong Kong, in roles including Head of
Year, Student Leadership Facilitator and Primary House Director. He is a
committed educational leader with a passion for student agency, wellbeing
and inclusion.

Secondary School
Mr. Nicholas FORDE, Secondary Principal
Mr. Nicholas Forde joined The ISF Academy in August 2009. He joined
from West Island School, Hong Kong. Prior to taking over as Secondary
Principal in 2018, he held the roles of IB Diploma Coordinator, Assistant
Principal, Senior School and Deputy Principal, Secondary at ISF. He
received his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) History, from the University of
London, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary, History) from
the University of Wales, Swansea and Master of Arts in Education from the
University of Bath.
He has been a teacher for more than 20 years, working in the U.K., Qatar
and Hong Kong. In addition to being a teacher, he also has extensive
administrative experience and is an IB authorization visit team leader. He
also works with IB to support schools going through the process of
authorization.

Mrs. Jenny CRAIG, Deputy Principal (Secondary)
Mrs. Jenny Craig has 28 years teaching and leadership experience in the
UK and in Hong Kong, as School Improvement Partner overseeing schools
across the South East of England, visiting team member of Ofsted
inspections in the UK, and CIS/WASC school evaluations in Southeast
Asia, Assistant Headteacher in Surrey, UK, Vice Principal at ESF West
Island, Hong Kong and teacher assessor for international, independent and
government schools across HK. Jenny is now in her seventh year, as the
Deputy Principal of ISF Secondary, having hoping the Academy in 2018.
Jenny has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in French and German, is an
accredited Teaching and Learning Coach and has completed the National
Qualification for Headship (NPQH) from the National College of Teaching
and Leadership, UK. In her free time, Jenny enjoys ultra-distance running,
snow sports, taking part in long course triathlons, being part of the HKCC
hockey team and visiting the many wonderful eateries of Hong Kong.

Mr. James DARWIN, Assistant Principal (Secondary)
Mr. James Darwin joined The ISF Academy in 2016 as a Design Teacher and
held the position of Grade 6 Level Leader in 2017. He was appointed as
Assistant Principal in 2024. Mr. Darwin graduated from Bournemouth
University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Industrial Design and
completed his Master’s degree in Education—Leadership and Management
at Bath University. He also holds a Postgraduate Certification in Education
from Goldsmiths, University of London.
Before joining the Academy, Mr. Darwin has thirteen years of education
experience, starting as a behavior and classroom support specialist and
moving to teach Design Technology in inner-city London.

Mr. Kevin HOYE, Assistant Principal (Secondary)
Mr. Kevin Hoye joined The ISF Academy in 2016 as the IB DP Coordinator.
He was appointed as Director of Curriculum (DP) in August 2019. He
graduated from University of Oxford with a Bachelor degree in Psychology
and Philosophy and completed his Master degree in Arts at the same
University. He also possesses a Postgraduate Certification in Education
issued by the University of York. Mr. Hoye has 13 years of teaching
experience in Hong Kong, Thailand and El Salvador before joining the
Academy.

Mr. Alan JOHNS, Assistant Principal (Secondary)
Mr. Alan Johns joined The ISF Academy in 2013 and has held the positions
of Head of Individuals and Societies and MYP Coordinator. In August 2019,
he was appointed as Director of Curriculum (MYP). He graduated from the
University of York with a Bachelor degree in Economics and Politics and
completed a Master degree in Political Philosophy at the same University. He
also possesses the certificate in English Language Teaching issued by the
University of Cambridge and postgraduate certificate in Education issued by
the Institute of Education. He has 6 years of teaching experience in the UK
and Beijing, mainland China before joining the Academy.

Mr. Yu LIU, Assistant Principal (Secondary)
Mr. Yu Liu joined The ISF Academy in 2011 as Secondary Chinese
teacher. He was appointed Assistant Principal (Middle School―
Student Welfare and Well-Being) in 2016. He teaches Chinese Language
and Literature as well as Chinese Humanities. As Assistant Principal
(Secondary), he leads the development of House, student leadership and
wider student life in Grade 6-12.
Mr. Liu graduated from the Tianjin Normal University in 2005 where he
majored in Chinese Language and Literature. He received his Master of
Education in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from the University
of Hong Kong. Since then, he has continued his education by attending a
number of IB workshops which focused on teaching Language and
Literature and managing Personal Project Program. Before joining the
Academy, Liu Yu gained 6 years of teaching experience in an International
Baccalaureate setting at Tianjin Experimental High School.

Ms. Tze-Long CHEUNG, Director of Chinese Learning
Ms. Tze-Long Cheung joined The ISF Academy in 2008 as a secondary
school Chinese language teacher. She has been appointed as Secondary
House Director, Grade Level Head, and Head of Chinese Language. In
August 2024, she was appointed as the Director of Chinese Learning. Ms.
Cheung has been instrumental in developing the Secondary School
Chinese language and Chinese humanities curriculum at ISF, implementing
a Chinese language curriculum that integrates drama education, and
designing and implementing a Chinese humanities research program.
Ms. Cheung graduated from the University of Hong Kong and the Hong
Kong Academy for Performing Arts, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in
Education (Chinese language), a Master degree in Language and Literature
Education, and a Master degree in Drama Education. She has 6 years of
teaching experience at grammar schools and vocational training institutes
in Hong Kong before joining the Academy. In addition, Ms. Cheung is an
experienced Chinese language teaching conference leader, conducted
conferences in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Office of Teaching & Learning
Ms. Penny HO, Director of Li Ren
Ms. Penny Ho served The ISF Academy as a school social worker from 2007
to 2009. She then joined the Academy as a Senior Guidance Counselor. She
was appointed as Head of Learning Support in 2010 and subsequently
named Director of Learning Support in 2013. In 2023, Li Ren was established
and she was appointed as Director of Li Ren.
She received her Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work from The
Chinese University of Hong Kong. After 7 years of working as a social worker
for The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, Ms. Ho went to the
UK to further her professional training and obtained her Postgraduate
Diploma in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from the University of
Roehampton in London.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ms. Ho has been actively serving the Hong
Kong community. She has facilitated workshops to introduce Dance
Movement Psychotherapy to NGOs and social services organizations in
Hong Kong. In her time at the Academy, she has always been the advocate
of student voice and will continue to cultivate a caring, inclusive and
supportive atmosphere for students.

Dr. Yulong ZHANG, Director of Chinese Research Center, Shuyuan
Chinese Classics Programs Manager, Secondary
Dr. Zhang Yulong joined ISF in 2013 as a Secondary School Chinese
teacher. He later assumed the role of Shuyuan Chinese Classics Programs
Manager and in 2024, he also took on the position of Director of Chinese
Research Center. He holds a Master's degree in Classical Chinese
Literature from Nanjing University and a Ph.D. in Classical Chinese
Literature from Hong Kong Baptist University.
Prior to joining ISF, Dr. Zhang served as a research assistant and lecturer
at Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Shue Yan University. His
research interests include classical poetry and the intellectual networks of
literati in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, on which he has published
several articles. Dr. Zhang is passionate about Chinese culture and is
dedicated to bridging the divides between the ancient and modern, and
between China and the West, in his teaching. He strives to guide Hong Kong
students to develop a comprehensive understanding of ancient China's
pursuit of knowledge and aesthetics.

Ms. Rae SCANLON, Director of Learning Analytics Project
Ms. Rae Scanlon joined The ISF Academy in 2010 as a Primary teacher.
In 2012, she was appointed Head of Mathematics—English (Primary).
She has received a Bachelor of Science in Education and Art from the
University of Miami in the US. She is certified to teach kindergarten to
Grade 5 as well as math and art from Grade 6 to 12. Before leaving the
United States for Hong Kong, she taught middle school math at a newly
formed arts charter school in Miami. Since started working in Hong Kong,
she has earned a Master of Education in Educational Administration and
Leadership from the University of Hong Kong.

Co-Curricular Activities
Mr. Simon JOYCE, General Manager, BELL
Mr. Simon Joyce joined The ISF Academy in August 2014 as the Head of
Co-Curricular Activities and transitioned to lead Bauhinia Experiential
Learning Limited (BELL) in August 2024 in the role of General Manager.
Prior to his appointment at ISF, Mr. Joyce served as the Head of Activities
at the Canadian International School in Hong Kong.
Mr. Joyce has been involved in the Hong Kong education sector since
1993, holding senior management positions within both educational
institutions and companies specializing in the provision of youth activities.
He is a registered teacher in Hong Kong and holds a Bachelor of Physical
Education degree from Newcastle University, Australia, as well as a
Master of Business Administration from the University of Adelaide. Mr.
Joyce maintains a keen interest in education and in supporting
supplementary learning opportunities for students.
In addition to his educational and business expertise, Mr. Joyce has
experience in establishing and implementing administrative, marketing,
and communication systems.
As the General Manager of BELL, Mr. Joyce's management
responsibilities include providing leadership and oversight for all co-
curricular programs and activities, ISF sporting teams, experiential
learning, and student development initiatives. He coordinates the
operational aspects of logistical support, resource allocation, and
communications for all activities conducted outside the formal curriculum.
Additionally, Mr. Joyce establishes, monitors, and evaluates the learning
outcomes and performance metrics for each activity under his purview.

Ms. Connie WONG, Director of Athletics, Assistant Head of BELL
Ms. Connie Wong joined The ISF Academy in August 2022 as the
Director of Athletics. She has over 20 years of experience as an elite
athlete, coach, and PE teacher, pioneering sports development in
Australia and Hong Kong.
Connie holds a Bachelor of Sports Science and Postgraduate Diplomas
in Secondary Teaching (Australia) and Sport & Recreation Management
(Hong Kong). In 2009, she returned to Hong Kong to become the
Technical Director of Netball Hong Kong, China. Over the 10 years,
Connie was integral in growing the sport from grassroots to the national
teams, earning a Life Member award.
Connie currently serves as the President of Netball Hong Kong, China,
holds a position on the executive committee of the International Schools
Sports Federation of Hong Kong, and is the Netball Convenor with The
Schools Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China.

Educational Technology
Mr. Sean MORAN, Head of Educational Technology
Mr. Sean Moran joined The ISF Academy in August 2012 and is the Head
of Educational Technology for the Academy. He received his Bachelor of
Science in Physics from California State University, Fullerton; a
Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Physics from The University of Hong
Kong and a Master of Education in Learning, Design and Technology from
The Pennsylvania State University in the US.
Mr. Moran grew up as a Third Culture Child having lived in 4 different
countries before even graduating high school. As an adult, he, his wife
and children have continued this travel adventure and have lived or
traveled to a number of different countries. Professionally he has been
working in education, computers and information & communication
technologies since the 1990s. He has taught computer studies in the
United States, Turkey, Italy and Hong Kong. Before joining the Academy,
Mr. Moran worked at South Island School.

Li Ren
Mr. Ethan STONE, Assistant Director of Li Ren
Mr. Ethan Stone joined The ISF Academy in 2017 as an English Teacher.
The following year he was appointed Grade 3 Level Head and
subsequently became Grade 5 Level Head in 2019. He received his
Master of Education (Pedagogy and Curriculum) at the University of Hong
Kong and his Bachelor of Arts in Primary Education at London
Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Stone was born in New York and raised in London in a family that was
involved in the film business. After experiencing the world of cinema in
Los Angeles and then venturing into health education and fundraising, he
became passionate about teaching when working with students with
special educational needs (SEN) upon moving back to London. He
retrained as a teacher and then completed a diploma in SEN prior to
moving to Hong Kong in 2013. More recently, Mr. Stone completed a
Postgraduate Certificate in SEN Leadership with Middlesex University,
UK.

Shuyuan
Ms. Diana IBARRA, Director of Shuyuan
Ms. Diana Ibarra joined The ISF Academy in 2012 and was appointed
the Director of Shuyuan in December 2018. She holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree from Willamette University, a Bachelor of Science degree
from Stanford University, a Master degree in Management from Boston
University and a Master degree in Environmental Engineering from
Montana State University. She has over 15 years of industry experience
in the US, mainland China, Germany, the Netherlands before joining the
Academy.

Ms. Sarah RATZLAFF, Assistant Director of Shuyuan
Ms. Sarah Ratzlaff joined the ISF Academy in 2020 as the Curriculum
Developer and Teacher of Shuyuan Comparative Politics. She holds a
Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations with an emphasis in
Political Economy, which she obtained from Mount Holyoke College in
the United States. Additionally, Ms. Ratzlaff has spent time studying at
Peking University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
Prior to her role at the Academy, Ms. Ratzlaff commenced her teaching
career by teaching English at a migrant school in Shanghai. Since
joining the Academy, she has dedicated her efforts towards various
sustainability initiatives and has demonstrated a passion for fostering
student research and other experiential learning opportunities.
