PDF Export Workflow using RTV Exporter Pro
The standard procedure for exporting PDF files using RTV Exporter Pro in Autodesk Revit.
1. Model Preparation
- Ensure the Revit model is clean, audited, and fully synchronized.
- Organize the Project Browser, and assign clear, specific names to all 2D and 3D views.
- Remove unused views and resolve all warnings in the model.
- Confirm that all required views and sheets have been created and properly named.
- Launch RTV Exporter Pro from the RTV Tools tab in Revit.
- There are two tabs in the top-left corner. The first tab allows you to select Revit sheets for printing, while the second tab is used to select and print Revit views.
- As shown in the default window, only a limited number of project parameters are available. To load custom parameters or additional project parameters, navigate to the Project Parameters tab.
- If you want to filter sheets by name, sheet number, or other categories, you can do so from this section.
- Additionally, you can use the filter icon (as marked) to apply more specific filters. For example, to filter sheets by their assigned numbers, select the "Equal To" filter and enter the desired sheet number.
- Additionally, if you want to load any predefined filter settings, you can do so from this section.
- As shown in the second image, I have filtered the first column using the "Equal To" condition with the sheet number A100. You can then save this filter by clicking the Save Filter icon, which saves it as an .rfxml file. This filter can be reused across
multiple projects for consistency and efficiency.
- After selecting the desired sheets, navigate to the Export tab to manage the export settings.
You can use the default settings provided here to export PDFs, or customize them based on your project requirements.
- As shown in the image, the first tab is for setting the folder-naming format.
Here, you can define the folder location and how the folder will be named.
- The second tab is for configuring the file naming format.
This is where you set up the naming convention for the exported files.
- The third tab allows you to select the export formats.
For example, if you want to export PDFs, simply select PDF from this tab.
- The fourth tab is for export configuration.
Here, you need to load or create an export configuration that defines how the selected format(s) will be
exported.
- To customize the folder or file naming format, click the marked icon; this will open a new window
displaying the available sheet format codes.
- Select the codes according to your requirements for the folder or file naming format.
For example, if you want to include the Date and Project Number in the naming, simply add those two
codes from the list.
- Before exporting, you can verify the folder and file naming formats in the Preview tab to ensure
everything is set correctly.
- After completing all the settings, you can save the configuration file to reuse the same export settings multiple times.
- You can select different tabs for different file types. For example, if you want to configure export settings for DWFx or DWG, simply go to the respective tab and follow the same process to set up the export configuration.
- Select the sheets you want to print as PDF or other formats like DWFx or DWG from the list, and add them to the Batch Process tab by clicking this icon.
3. Configure PDF Export Settings
- Load configuration setting which using marked green icon.
- Load this configuration setting for PDF export from the folder location (L:\HKR BIM\DeliveryExportSettings).
- Use separate configuration files for other file formats as needed.
5. Run Export or Schedule Batch
- Choose to run the batch process using this icon.
- Review log output and confirm file creation.
6. QA Check
- Verify file content, naming, and formatting as per the HKR standards and project requirement.
