The Canaanite Woman - A Woman of Faith
The Canaanite Woman - A Woman of Faith
In the Bible, we have several accounts of stories of faith, love, and courage. The story of the woman
Cananeia is certainly the one that leads us the most to reflect on the humble and measured attitude.
A woman of faith, courage, and discernment.
I - A Woman of Faith
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
they are seen." (Heb 11:1). The Canaanite woman had the confidence that she was on the right track.
upon addressing Jesus, just as he was certain that his daughter was possessed.
The discernment, the certainty and theconviction, They took her to the right place and the right person.
When we are surrounded by uncertainties and doubts, we distance ourselves more and more.
but from him who can help us; Jesus Christ, he is the only provider of our
lives.

First she had faith in the savior, in the provider of all things, recognizing his
lineage, as reported in Matthew 15:22 which says: 'Lord, son of David'. She had
conviction that they were going to the right person.
b) Motivated by Courage
She was a foreigner, a Gentile woman of Syro-Phoenician origin who lived in the
regions of Tyre and Sidon. Even knowing that she was in a lower position, this woman
of courage, took nothing into account; only followed in pursuit of the cure for his daughter,
because she was a woman of faith.
c) Motivated By Hope
Like so many of us, we would be willing to give our lives for our children and we are
every day begging with faith, courage, determination; the Canaanite woman did not measure
efforts, and full of hope she pleaded with him who could hear her, Jesus.
Ao buscarmos à Deus precisamos parar de pedir coisas materiais e focar nas espirituais,
many times we are going through a problem that we do not know its nature; and
we seek help in the wrong places and from the wrong people.
Discernment makes us aware of the nature of the problem; whether it is spiritual, material, or
clinical, and only God can give this discernment. In the case of the Canaanite woman, she must have
to be guided by someone or by God Himself, to seek Jesus.
b) Overcoming Barriers
But Jesus did not answer him a word. Then his disciples came up to him and
They asked: 'Send her away, for she is screaming behind us.'
(Matthew 15:23).
And this was a fact. What is usually done in the face of someone's silence? What is our
first reaction? What feeling arises within us when we come across the
others' silence?
May these answers remain in our minds and hearts for us to reflect in our actions.
a gentile that was not part of the 'chosen people', but was part of the people
beloved. In this difficult moment of your life, Jesus decided to test her before giving her
blessing and to show His disciples that God does not show favoritism to those who have a
genuine faith.
IV - Attitude of Humility
a) The Attitude of Humility Made Clear the Size of Your Faith
At that time, the Jews saw the Gentiles as corrupt and idolatrous, they were treated
like something of no value. This expression that Jesus uses, 'puppy', [was a term that
the Jews used to refer to the gentiles because they considered them a pagan people
it was worth nothing more than this animal] (footnote from the personal application bible).
V - Attitude of worship
She came to the feet of Jesus and worshiped Him in an attitude of humility and servitude. Look at the
what does theword
of God: The woman came, adored him on her knees and said: "Lord,
help me! "(Mt 15:25)."
We have several examples of worship in the Bible, all with fabulous results.
Worship comes first, the answer comes later. When you come to the Lord with the
a humble heart free of impurities, worship is received by God. Worship the
Lord, because he is worthy, because he loved us first, for having sent his son
loved to die for us.
VI - Victory Attitude
Getting close to the right person at the right time certainly contributed a lot to that.
she obtained victory. Facing the prejudices of the time, facing the barriers imposed
For the Jews, facing everything and seeking Jesus also contributed.

doctor of doctors, she sought Jesus, although having faced difficulties, she
did not give up and continued to face all situations.
She cried out to God, and that is how we should do it; cry out to whom can, cry out to the
Sir. With her, we learned that even in adverse conditions, because she is gentle, for
being a woman, she reached out to her father, she could cry out and be heard. Thus we are, we have
access to the Lord though weak and discouraged, we have access to the Father who is
merciful.
May we have enough humility to come to the feet of Jesus, that we may succeed
