REF# COC-D-002: LPG Gas Standards

Gas Tank Installation Requirements

1. Approach road to installation - Tanker parking and maneuvering LPG unloading point to be located in properly secured area. Approach road and tanker-parking area to be leveled. Tanker unloading area should be away from public traffic to avoid accidental collision during discharge Ideally the tanker should be able to approach the installation in forward motion and when parked at the unloading point, the tanker should be facing the exit. This is to ensure our bulk tanker can drive out easily in case of an emergency at site. In case of no alternative and our tanker has to reverse along the approach road to reach the unloading point, the distance must not exceed 50 meters total with wide and clear access. 2. Fencing/ Lockable Gate Based on drawing provided, suggest width of both gates is altered such that wider gate is made available near the unloading point and width of gate at the side entrance reduced accordingly. Such ventilation to be closed with wire-mesh. Only res tricted access to be permitted. 3. Extinguishers Minimum 2 no. 9 kg DCP (dry chemical powder) fire extinguishers to be installed at easily accessible location outside the fencing. One C02 extinguisher to be provided near the vaporisers. 4. Warning boards Sufficient hazard warning boards to be installed on the fencing (Annexure 1). 5. Earthing Dedicated earthing pit must be provided for tanks, pipelines and vaporisers. Earthing must also be provided at the unloading point for discharging static charge. The standard earthing requirement is enclosed for reference (Annexure 2). 6. End fittings required On liquid line On vapor line -

7. Tank manholes Adequate measures must be taken to prevent rain water ingress/ accumulation at the necks/ manholes of the underground tanks. 8. Electric Equipment Electrical fittings, cabling, wiring in the vicinity of the tanks to be as per zone classifications. 9. Lighting Within 5 feet radius from the tanks / unloading point to be flameproof lighting suitable for class 1 division 1 area and within 15 feet radius to be suitable for class 1 division 2 area. 10. Others All other requirements such as gas detection systems, fire water monitor etc. shall be governed by the local Civil Defence regulations. Also refer to Annexure 3. 11. Applicable Standards and Regulations: NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code, 2006 NFPA 58 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, 2008 Dubai Civil Defence Regulations
