John Smithers at Sigtek

Organization Development
What is it? OD is the comprised long range efforts and programs aimed at improving an organizations ability to survive by changing its problem solving and renewal processes. Its purpose is to increase the effectiveness of the system and to develop the potential of all the individual members.

Background
Sigtek is a small company that has been in business of manufacturing printed circuit boards for 25 years. It was recently bought by Telwork and informed that changes were going to happen. John Smithers has been with Sigtek for only 3 years. He is very disenchanted with the company and slow process of the new TQP trying to be put into place.

Major Problems of Sigtek

One problem is that Sigteks sales have dropped and they are now facing competition in the market.

Another problem is that Sigtek lacks strong leadership and guidelines. A major problem is also the feuding between departments.

Recommendations
1st. : Would be for the Engineering and Operations department to work together to accomplish goal and new product development for Sigtek in order to be able to compete in the market and increase sales. 2nd.: For John Smithers to become more of a leader at Sigtek, since he has a good track record of improved success in the engineering department. 3rd.: The removal of Petricof as he seems to be a major problem at Sigtek with his own agenda not the common good of the company, its employees and customers.

Implementation
In order for Sigtek to be a success, I would promote John Smithers to a higher position as he has a good relationship with the workers of Sigteck even though he feels his credibility was damaged by the slow progress of the TQP For there to be a more cohesive environment fro Sigtek maybe trying a different TQP would help

Kotter Model

Implementation ( continued)
Show the workers what the problems are and what need to be done to correct them .
