Communication

The term communication can be defined in many ways. communication as a symbolic process in which people create shared meanings. A symbol in this definition refers to a word, action or object that represents a meaning. Meaning, then, is a perception, thought or feeling experienced and communicated by a person.

INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
Intercultural communication in its most basic form refers to an academic field of study, research and in an organization . Its seeks to understand how people from different countries and cultures behave, communicate and perceive the world around them.

CULTURE
The term culture refers to all the characteristics common to a particular group of people that are learned and not given by nature .That the member of a group have two legs is thus not a culture characteristics but a nature alone while a special but common way of walking would probably be culture.

Need of intercultural communication


The student will increase their knowledge about their culture and increase their awareness about other culture .this knowledge should enable students to be better equipped to understand and resolve the issue and conflict that can and do arise when people of different culture interact.

Objective of intercultural communication


To enable you to learn how to analyze cultural differences. To enable you to develop the awareness, knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively with other cultures. To make you aware of how national cultures affect a societys culture, institutions, organisations and business practices. To make you examine and understand your own culture and how that differs from other cultures. Reduced Conflict To increase your knowledge about the importance of cross-cultural communication in today's world.

Listen carefully and, if in doubt, ask for confirmation of understanding Respect the local communication formalities and styles, and watch for any changes in body language. If it is not possible to learn the other's language, it is expedient to show some respect by learning a few words. Avoid using slang and idioms, choosing words that will convey only the most specificunderstandings to listener.
