United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Francesco Frangialli, Head of UNWTO Most widely recognized and the leading international organization in the field of travel and tourism today. United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
With its headquarters in Madrid, UNWTO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). UNWTOs membership includes 156 countries, 6 associates Members and over 400 Affiliate Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities. Ensuring that the economic benefits of tourism development are not offset by damage to the environment or to local cultures.
UNWTO is well known for its statistics and market research; Human resource development; attempts to facilitate world travel through elimination or reduction of government measures for international travel; engages in regional activities. www.unwto.org
World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Forum for global business leaders in travel and tourism. The only body representing the private sectors in all parts of the industry worldwide. Established in 1990, the mission of the council is to raise awareness of the economic and social contribution of travel and tourism and to work with governments on policies that unlock the industrys potential to create jobs and generate prosperity.
The activities of the council can be summarized under three broad themes: Global Activities, Regional Initiatives, Economic Research
International Air Transport Association (IATA) Head office is in Montreal; executive office is in Geneva. The global organization for virtually all the international air carriers. The principal function of IATA is to safely facilitate the movement of persons and goods from any point on the world air network to any other by any combination of routes. Resolutions of IATA standardize not only tickets, but waybills, baggage checks, and other similar documents.
IATA is also involved in many other areas, such as industry support, the environment, consumer issues, regulatory monitoring, legal support, corporate communications, scheduling, safety and security. IATAs mission is to represent and serve the world airline industry. They serve for groups interested in the smooth operation of the world air transport system: Airlines, The Public, Governments and Third Parties (suppliers, travel and cargo agents)
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) A UN specialized agency; the global forum for civil aviation. Established in 1944, ICAO works to achieve its vision of safe, secure, and sustainable development of civil aviation through cooperation of its member states.
Skal International Skal headquarters is in Torremolinos, Spain. Professional organization of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. An affiliate member of UNWTO and supports UNWTOs mission to promote the development of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. Skal is a powerful force in the tourism industry to initiate change and encourage the conservation of the environment.
Members exchange ideas, seek solutions to problems, and participate in shaping the future of travel in Asia and the Pacific area. Since its founding, the association has become an important source of accurate, up-to-date information for its members. www.pata.org
Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) A fairly young organization born out of a union of national associations of the outbound travel agencies and inbound tour operators in 1979. Founded to foster unity in the travel industry and to promote the welfare of its members and the travel public as well.
Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Mark T. Lapid, COO Mandate To designate, regulate and supervise tourism enterprise zones To develop, manage and supervise tourism infrastructure projects nationwide
To provide technical and financial assistance to qualified tourism projects, investors and proponents (both government and private) To generate revenue to fund both national and corporate developmental needs and/or undertakings.
Tourism Promotions Board formerly Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation (PCVC) Create and maintain organizational machinery to plan, develop, and execute a campaign to promote tourism and to attract international congresses and conventions in the Philippines. Oversee the requirements and general welfare of the conventioneers.
