The Beginning Of Change


The Gibson Girl style of skirts and shirtwaists was still popular at the beginning of the century. For fashionable men, the long, lean, and athletic silhouette of the 1890s persisted. The first real fashion shows were organized during this period in time, by the first female couturier, Jeanne Paquin. Changes in dress during World War I were dictated more by necessity than fashion.

1970s Fashion: Dawn of Disco Fever


Men began wearing ties that were even wider than in previous years, and their shirts grew more colourful. Both genders also enjoyed platform shoes and fitted blazers. men began to wear three-piece suits, complete with wide collared shirts. Women wore bold and geometrically patterned midi dresses or skirts with hemlines that reached to the mid calf, or maxis, whose hemlines brushed the ankle. Bell-bottom trousers were also a mainstay of the early 1970s fashion which were replaced by high-waisted and flare legged denim jeans or satin trousers.

1980s Fashion Trends: It Was All About the Status


Alligator shirts, leg warmers, men's power suits and big shoulder pads were just a few of the fashionable trends noted during this decade of wealth, power, and status. narrow pinstripes, narrower lapels and worn with ties. Leg warmers, leggings, leotards, ripped sweatshirts, headbands and designer jeans were all the rage during this decade. Mini skirts continued to be popular, with hemlines of various heights noted throughout the 1980s.

Womens fashion:
Low-rise skinny jeans, lycra yoga wear. Trench coats and pea coats, Capri pants, tank tops, leggings Vintage clothing including hippie and boho inspired dresses with paisley patterns. Tunic worn with wide or thin belts. Knee high boots with pointed toes. Natural wavy hair and shorter style like the bob cut and pixie cut made a comeback

Retro fashion and 1960s counter culture became popular. Winkle pickers, cartoon print hoodies and vintage t-shirts. Military surplus dress jackets and fitted 1970s style western shirts with pearl snaps. Wings (haircut) inspired by surfers and British indie pop stars came into existence.
