Telephone Communication

Following Main Exchanges are catering to the needs of Telephone Communication in
Offices and Residences of Bokaro Steel Plant.
Plant EPAX: Capacity 5000 lines (71xxx, 72xxx, 73xxx, 74xxx and 75xxx series).
T/S EPAX: Capacity 5000 lines expandable up to 7400 lines (84xxx,85xxx,86xxx, 87xxx, &
88xxx).
BGH RLU: Capacity 500 lines (89000 to 89499).
Admin. Bldg. EPAX: Capacity 3000 lines (80xxx,81xxx and 82xxx series).
All BSL Telephone Exchanges are having DID facility for Direct Inward Dialling from
BSNL Exchange. Hence all Public as well as Mobile Subscribers from anywhere in the world
can contact BSL Telephone users.
All the residential Telephone Connections have been provided with DOD (Direct Outward
Dialing) facility to BSNL phones, within B.S. City.
All BSL Telephone Exchanges are also having both way Connectivity (for Incoming and
Outgoing calls) with BSL Mobile Phones having CUG facility through BSNL.
All the BSL exchanges are connected with OFC networks and are working with Unified
dialing system, wherein any BSL Telephone number can be dialed directly from any other
BSL Telephone.

Main Exchanges
Artitecture
The MDF is the connection point system inside the building, where the cables or
lines to/from the district telephone exchange terminate on the line side, and cross-
connections (jumpers) run to the opposite (exchange) side of the MDF, and from
those terminals a multi-core cable runs from a second set of terminals to the
actual PABX exchange in the particular building.

A multi-core cable runs from the PABX to each DF which are commonly located in
areas, for example in 2-floor business premises, there would normally be a DF on
each floor.

From the DF, the smaller cables run to each individual extension telephone outlet
socket.

The reason for using these frames, with Numbered/lettered cable terminals on
both sides, interlinked by removable or alterable wiring connections called
"jumpers", is that if a particular telephone extension needs to be moved, for a
change of desk or office, it is easy to just remove and alter the cross connections
(jumpers) at the DF or MDF.
