Quick Passing Basics

Complete Quick package consists of 7 patterns
1) Stop
4) Slant
2) Slant
5) Broken Arrow
3) Fade
6) Bubble
7) Zip

Patterns are always mirrored on both sides of the ball.

Taught as a complete pattern not just individual routes. All
players must be able to run all routes within the pattern and know
their routes purpose.
No primary receiver all receivers are to run complete routes and
expect the ball every play.
Replay

Quick Passing Basics

QBs pre-snap read will dictate the side hell be throwing to.
QBs key is always one defensive player with only 2
options -- he does this - I do that.
Several formations, motioning and adjustment tags give
the illusion of complexity to the defense.
For a side that has only one receiver in tight, well apply a
Common Sense Rule: If #1 is in tight, an outside route
doesnt make sense. Run a route to occupy the middle of
the field.

Individual routes within each pattern are assigned

Details of Running
the Broken Arrow

31

#1 - Stop route wide split - 5 steps, snap back and

expect the ball now. Read the Corners feet. If he backs up,
run the stop, if he sits and squares up, beat him deap.
#2 Broken Arrow outside stem at defender for three
steps, then break the route off to the inside of the defender
and get back on the seam. Do not turn it into a slant. Do
not run into the inside LBs. Once you are in the whole,
choke it down. Do not run all the way to the safety.

Basics

Broken Arrow
Stem to the outside at the defender who is leveraging
you. If he is inside leverage you will stem to his outside
shoulder then on the third step break it off to the inside
and get back up the seam.
If the defender is outside leverage, stem to his inside
shoulder.
Do not turn it into a slant. Do not run across into the
inside LBs.
Do not run all the way up to the safeties. When you get
in the whole choke it down.

Stop
Charge up-field three big steps selling the deep
route. Then take two shorter transition steps as
you sink your hips to stop. Get your head
around and show the Qb your numbers.
Durning your first three steps read the corners
feet. If you does not move backwards, then beat
him deep.

Fade
Stem four steps vertical at the defender. On the
fourth step, plant and push off to the outside.
Fade to the bottom of the numbers leaving at
least four yards between you and the sideline.

Slant
Three steps vertical stem. On the thirds
step plant and cut to the post.

Zip
Four step vertical stem the roll into the turn
climbing to five to six yards.

Post
Seven step stem then break to the post.

Check
Four step stem then fade to 15 yards then
stop and comeback to the outside coming
back to the ball at 13 yards.

Bubble
Open step to the sideline gaining depth
and width. Second step is a crossover
gaining more depth. On third step snap
head around to find the ball.

Curl
Seven step stem, break to post for two
steps, then stop and turn head and
numbers to the Qb. If there is no window
to the Qb, drift to the next window inside.

The Uncovered Principle

Forcing defenses to cover down on our split
receivers is something we believe in as strongly
as anything in our offense. We work to throw to
any uncovered receiver created by alignment or
motion. We have two basic types of uncovered
throws, each has a special audible or cadence
indication. If we fail to force the defense to
cover our receivers it gives a license to put an
extra man in the box to defend the run and
become an extra rusher vs. our passing game.

The Uncovered Principle

Rules for Throwing Uncovered
1. Any receiver who can catch the ball and

The receiver widens on his release at about 45 degrees, shows the Qb

his numbers, looking for the ball quickly. The QB will simply rise up
and throw on the first step.

We will widen splits when defenders try to play between us so that we

can break the defender off from any help. In Roy and Lucy the X can
also be considered uncovered if the Corner is 10 or more yards off.

Our second form of uncovered we call bubble. It functions like

a quick screen, mostly run to the trips side. We will create an
uncovered receiver through blocking and route running.
