Whole Note
The Whole Note is the most basic type of
note.
It has four beats no matter what time
signature it is in.
In 4/4 time it takes up the whole measure.

Half Note
The Half note is the next size directly
smaller then the whole note.
It is half of the size of the whole note.
The half note takes up 2 beats 4/4 time.
The largest note value with a stem.

Quarter Note
The quarter note is the next size directly
smaller then the half note.
It is a quarter of the size of the whole note.
The Quarter note takes up 1 beats 4/4
time.
There can be four quarter notes in 4/4
time.

The eighth note is the next size directly
smaller then the half note.
It is a eighth of the size of the quarter
note.
The Eight note takes up a of a beat in
4/4 time.
There can be Eight Eighth notes in 4/4
