FPGA DEFINTION
DEFINITION:
Field Programmable Gate Arrays(FPGAs) are semiconductor devices that are based around a
matrix of configurable logic blocks (CLBs) connected via programmable interconnects. FPGAs
can be reprogrammed to desired application or functionality requirements after manufacturing.
INVENTION OF FPGA
XILINX co-founders Ross
Freeman and
Bernard
Vonderschmitt invented
the
first
commercially viable field-programmable gate array in 1985 the XC2064 The XC2064 had
programmable gates and programmable interconnects between gates, the beginnings of a new
technology and market. The XC2064 had 64 configurable logic blocks (CLBs), with two
three-input lookup tables (LUTs).It is also known as XC2000.

FPGA:VIRTEX
Virtex is the flagship family of FPGA products developed by Xilinx.
Xilinx Virtex series is the first line of FPGA to offer one million system gates. it is introduced
in 1998.the virtex product line fundamentally predefined programmable logic by expanding
traditional capabilities of FPGAs

FEATURES OF 7 SERIES
FPGA
low-power variant of 28nm process technology
The 7 series FPGAs combine power reducing process, design techniques, and
architectural enhancements to deliver the lowest power consumption, compared to
previous generation FPGAs:
Breakthrough 50% Power Reduction
Greater than 2X System Performance
Dramatically Reduced Development Time
FPGA:KINTEX-7
The Kintex-7 family is the first Xilinx mid-range FPGA family that the company
claims delivers Virtex-6 family performance at less than half the price while
consuming 50 percent less power.
KINTEX-7
Industrys Best Price Performance FPGAS
50% low power than previous generations
High range(3.3v) and high performance(1.8v) I/O
The Kintex family includes high-performance 12.5 Gbit/s or lower-cost optimized
6.5 Gbit/s serial connectivity, memory, and logic performance required for
applications such as high volume 10G optical wired communication equipment,
and provides a balance of signal processing performance, power consumption and
cost to support the deployment of Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless networks.
ARTIX-7
The Artix-7 family delivers 50 percent lower power and 35 percent lower cost
compared to the Spartan-6 family and is based on the unified Virtex-series
architecture. Xilinx claims that Artix-7 FPGAs deliver the performance required to
address cost-sensitive, high-volume markets previously served by ASSPs, ASICs,
and low-cost FPGAs
ARTIX-7
lowest power, lowest cost and small form factor FPGA
Upto 16 6.6 GBPS Serial transrecievers
High Range (3.3V) I/O
The ARTIX family is designed to address the small form factor and low-power
performance
requirements
of

equipment,
commercial digital camera lens control, and military avionics and communications
equipment.
7 SERIES FPGA FAMILIES
FPGA:ZYNQ
The Zynq-7000 family of SoCs addresses high-end embedded-system applications,
such as video surveillance, automotive-driver assistance, next-generation wireless,
and factory automation.
In 2013, Xilinx introduced the Zynq-7100, which integrates (DSP) to meet
emerging programmable systems integration requirements of wireless, broadcast,
medical and military applications
FPGA:ZYNQ
Zynq-7000 integrate a completeCORTEX-A9-processor-based 28 nm
system. The Zynq architecture differs from previous marriages of
programmable logic and embedded processors by moving from an
FPGA-centric platform to a processor-centric model.
For software developers, Zynq-7000 appear the same as a standard,
fully featured ARM processor-based system-on-chip (SOC), booting
immediately at power-up and capable of running a variety of operating
systems independently of the programmable logic.
