CCMS
The Computer Center Management System (CCMS) is a
collection of tools and utilities which allows you to monitor,
manage, and configure the R/3 system.
The CCMS toolset supports most of the system management
functions.
The CCMS provides a series of graphical monitors and
management utilities.
The CCMS manages a very large amount of highly technical
information, which can only be understood with a deep
knowledge of the operating system, underlying database
architecture, network, and the R/3 internals.
Various Functions
The various functions are:
Starting and stopping SAP instances
Monitoring and analyzing the workload of the
underlying operating systems, the network, the
database engine, and the SAP system itself
Automatic problem detection with the use and
configuration of alert thresholds
Definition of operation modes with 24 hours unattended
work process automatic reconfiguration
Instance profile checking and maintenance
Centralized management of usual activities of the
printing system, database, and background system
Data archiving functions
Main Concepts
The main concepts with which to get familiar when operating the
CCMS:
R / 3 instances
Defines resources needed by a SAP Application Server, such as
memory configuration, number and type of services provided
(work processes), and so on.
Syntax <hostname>_<SID>_<system number>
Instances profiles
Include the group of parameters which sets the values for the
resources needed by the R/3 instances.
Initially generated when installing the SAP system.
Operation modes
Main use is to automatically switch work process types to better
distribute the available resources.

Central monitor - an overview of the whole SAP system status
Performing management functions like changing operation modes, starting and
stopping instances

user name who changed it, and the reference server for parameter checking

profile value problems should these files be edited at the operating system
level.

To look at the current active parameter of an instance
Does not show global parameters
Advantage:
System checks the consistency of all the parameter values
and displays any problems or errors it detects.
Working with Operation
Modes
Define how many work process types will be available and
can automatically switch to other types at certain hours
No need to restart the instances
Operation modes are defined at the instance level.
An instance is assigned to one or several operation modes.
The operation mode definition includes
The number and type of work processes for an instance
The total number of work processes cannot be modified
The time and schedule when the services will be available

There are four required steps for the configuration:
1. Define an operation mode.
2. Define the instance.
3. Assign the instances and the work process

The monitoring utilities
System monitors. In charge of displaying an overview of the
SAP instances status and alerts
Alert monitors. Online monitors capable of automatic problem
detection and display.
Performance monitors. Specialized monitors which analyze and
help to tune the different components of the SAP system such as
the database, the operating system, the buffers, or the network

Statistical information is collected using the RSCOLL00 program
Information is archived in the database table MONI and also in the PAHI
This job is usually called SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR or
SAP_COLLECTOR
The RSCOLL00 program uses the special table TCOLL
Workload Monitor
Workload monitor uses the information that has been collected by the data
collector
The statistical information is the key for analyzing whether the current
system configuration

Each monitor or MT has two possible views
Current status. Shows an overview of current alert values.
Open alerts. Displays the non processed alerts in the
system.
There are color codes for the MTE nodes that have the
following meanings:
Green. The component works correctly.
Yellow. A warning alert has occurred.
Red. A problem has occurred in the system.
White. There is no information about this node that has
been provided by any data supplier.
