FORMATION:
Take the present subjunctive form of haber
Haya, hayas, haya, hyamos, hayis, hayan
Haya + past participle = perfect subjunctive
E.g past participle of MORIR
Muerto
Haya muertohe/she has died
(but because it is in the subjunctive, there is
some doubt about this)

It is not certain that he/she/it had been discovered
It is probable that we have arrived late

FORMATION:
Take the imperfect subjunctive of haber
Hubiera, hubieras, hubiera, hubiramos, hubierais,
hubieran
Hubiera + past participle =pluperfect subjunctive
E.g past participle of ROMPER
Roto
Hubiera rotoit was broken (before something else
happened)
(but because this is the subjunctive, it is uncertain)

How do you know which
one to use???
The perfect and pluperfect subjunctives are used in the
same was as their respective tenses.
A good way to decide is:
1you want to say it is not certain that he was dead. If
you took away the uncertainty, the sentence would read
it is certain that he was dead which would be
Es cierto que ha muerto
So, if you put the uncertainty back into the sentence,
then you would need the perfect subjunctive to replace
the perfect tense.
So now the sentence would read no es cierto que haya
muerto
And the same applies to the pluperfect subjunctive.

The perfect and pluperfect subjunctives
are used to replace the perfect and
pluperfect tenses when there is
uncertainty in the sentence.
