Q NO 1 PART A Draw Carnot Cycle On P-V and T-S

The document contains questions and explanations about vapor power cycles. 1. It asks to draw the Carnot cycle on P-V and T-S diagrams and explains why it is not practically used due to issues with using vapor as the working fluid, such as the need for high temperature heat sources and irreversible processes. 2. It then asks about the ideal Brayton cycle, describing the four processes of isentropic compression, isobaric heating, isentropic expansion, and isobaric cooling. 3. Finally, it asks how raising the condenser temperature in a Rankine cycle would change the work and heat terms, and how many properties are needed to determine a Rankine cycle with

Q No 1 Part C. the numerical
Go to steam tables
@ P1 = 40 bars = 4000 kPa the T1 = 75.87 oC

@ P2 = 0.035 bars = 3.5 kPa the T2 = 26.52

oC

And then use this formula

As Carnot cycle always have highest thermal
efficiency for any given temperatures so you
can not do any modification to increase its
thermal efficiency further.

Q No 2 Part a
Ideal Brayton/Joule cycle

Isentropic Process- ambient air is drawn into the

compressor, where it is pressurized.
Isobaric Process- the compressed air then runs
through a combustion chamber, where fuel is burned,
heating that aira constant-pressure process, since
the chamber is open to flow in and out.
Isentropic Process - the heated, pressurized air then
gives up its energy, expanding through a turbine (or
series of turbines). Some of the work extracted by the
turbine is used to drive the compressor.
Isobaric Process - heat rejection (in the atmosphere).
