Capacity Class 4

This document discusses units of capacity, including litres and millilitres. It provides examples of converting between litres and millilitres, such as 1 litre equaling 1000 millilitres. Capacity word problems involving addition and subtraction of litres and millilitres are presented. The key points are that a litre is the standard unit of capacity and equals 1000 millilitres, and examples show converting between these units and solving related problems.

CAPACITY
CONTENT

⦿The quantity of liquid

a container can hold is
called its capacity.
UNITS OF CAPACITY

The standard
unit of
Capacity is
litre (l)
Litre

Capacity
Millilitre
HOW MANY MILLILITRES
MAKES 1 LITRE
1000 ml= 1 LITRE
500ml + 500 ml= 1000 ml
This is a measuring jug or a litre
measure. This jug is used to measure
parts of a litre.
//
Conversion of higher unit to lower unit
1 l = 1000ml
so, 5l = 5 x 1000 = 5000ml
and 3l 123 ml =3 x 1000 ml + 123 ml
= 3000 ml + 123 ml
=3123 ml
Conversion of lower unit to higher unit
1000 ml = 1 l
so, 5467 ml = 5467 / 1000 ml
= 5 l 467 ml
