WHEEL HOUSE
• The view of the sea surface from the Navigation workstation shall not be
obscured by more than two ship lengths, or 500 m, whichever is the less,
forward of the bow to 10° on either side under all conditions of draught, trim
and deck cargo, e.g. Containers
• Head beams shall be > 2250 mm, and the upper edge of the front windows
shall allow a forward view for a person in a standing position with an eye
height of 1800 mm
• The steering wheel should be located on the ship’s center-line. If the view
ahead is obstructed by large masts, cranes, etc then it should be located a
distance to starboard of the center-line.
• No blind sector caused by cargo, cargo gear or other obstructions outside
forward of the wheelhouse which obstructs the view of the sea surface as
seen from the navigating workstation, shall exceed 10°. The total arc of
blind sectors shall not exceed 20°.
• All bridge windows through which the officer of the watch looks (225°) shall
be inclined 15° - 25° from the vertical plane to avoid reflections

• The ship’s side should be visible from the bridge wing.


• Bridge wings should be provided out to the maximum
beam of the ship.
• This requirement is accomplished when the bridge
wings are extended up to 400 mm less than the
maximum beam of the ship and the bridge crew can
lean over the side to have an unobstructed view.
• The requirement shall also be fulfilled when the sea
surface at the lowest draught and a transverse
distance of 500 mm and more from the maximum
beam throughout the ship’s length is visible from the
side of the bridge wing

A. General
1. Manoeuvring arrangement
1.1 Each ship is to be provided with a manoeuvring arrangement which
will guarantee sufficient manoeuvring capability.
1.2 The manoeuvring arrangement includes all parts from the rudder and
steering gear to the steering position necessary for steering the ship.
1.3 Rudder stock, rudder coupling, rudder bearings and the rudder body
are dealt with in this Section. The steering gear is to comply with Rules
for Machinery Installations, Volume III, Section 14.
1.4 The steering gear compartment shall be readily accessible and, as
far as practicable, separated from the machinery space.
ACCOMMODOTATIONS ARRANGEMENT

The competent authority (flagstate) shall pay particular


attention to ensuring implementation of the
requirements of this Convention relating to:
a. The size of rooms and other accommodation
spaces;
b. Heating and ventilation;
c. Noise and vibration and other ambient factors;
d. Sanitary facilities;
e. Lighting; and
f. Hospital accommodation

SLEEPING ROOMS

SLEEPING ROOMS SHALL BE SITUATED :


• above the load line amidships or aft,
• except that in exceptional cases, where the size, type or
intended service of the ship renders any other location
impracticable, sleeping rooms may be located in the fore
part of the ship,
• but in no case forward of the collision bulkhead;
• the accommodation shall be adequately insulated;
• the minimum permitted headroom in all seafarer
accommodation where full and free movement is
necessary shall be not less than 203 centimeters

SLEEPING ROOMS

There shall be no direct openings into sleeping rooms from:


a. cargo and machinery spaces
b. from galleys, storerooms, drying rooms or communal
sanitary areas;
c. that part of a bulkhead separating such places from
sleeping rooms and external bulkheads shall be
efficiently constructed of steel or other approved
substance and be watertight and gas-tight

SLEEPING ROOMS
REQUIREMENTS FOR VENTILATION AND HEATING:
• sleeping rooms and mess rooms shall be adequately
ventilated;
• shall be equipped with air conditioning for
– seafarer accommodation,
– for any separate radio room and
– for any centralized machinery control room;
• all sanitary spaces shall have ventilation to the open air,
independently of any other part of the accommodation; and
• adequate heat through an appropriate heating system shall
be provided, except in ships exclusively on voyages in
tropical climates.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SLEEPING ROOMS:


a. An individual sleeping room shall be provided for each
seafarer for ships > 3000 GT;
b. Separate sleeping rooms shall be provided for men and
for women;
c. A separate berth for each seafarer shall in all
circumstances be provided

MESS ROOM

a. Mess rooms shall be located apart from the sleeping rooms and
as close as practicable to the galley;
b. The floor area of mess rooms for seafarers should be not less
than 1.5 square-meter per person of the planned seating
capacity.
c. Mess rooms should be equipped with tables and appropriate
seats, fixed or movable, sufficient to accommodate the greatest
number of seafarers likely to use them at any one time
d. Provision shall be made for separate or common mess room
facilities as appropriate, i.e. refrigerator, hot water maker, cool
water facility, wash basin.
e. Ships of less than 3,000 GT may be exempted by the competent
authority.
SANITARY ROOMS / LAVATORY / TOILETS

• All seafarers shall have convenient access on the ship to sanitary


facilities meeting minimum standards of health and hygiene and
reasonable standards of comfort,
• Separate sanitary facilities being provided for men and for
women;
• In all ships a minimum of one toilet, one wash basin and one tub
or shower or both for every six persons or less
• There shall be sanitary facilities within easy access of the
navigating bridge and the machinery space or near the engine
room control center ;
• All sanitary spaces shall have ventilation to the open air,
independently of any other part of the accommodation; and
• As far as practicable, lavatory shall be provided on each
accommodation deck and directly vertical to each other
HOSPITAL / CLINIC / SICKBAY

• Ships carrying 15 or more seafarers and engaged in a


voyage of more than three days duration shall provide
separate hospital accommodation to be used exclusively
for medical purposes
• The hospital accommodation should be designed so as to
facilitate consultation and the giving of medical first aid
and to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases
• Sanitary accommodation should be provided for the
exclusive use of the occupants of the hospital
accommodation, comprise a minimum of one toilet, one
washbasin and one tub or shower.
