EIA OF METRO PROJECT IN LUCKNOW
Presented by: VINAY SACHAN
OBJECTIVE & SCOPE OF THE STUDY
LMRC plans for funding for the proposed corridor from
European Investment Bank (EIB).
To facilitate the LMRC for EIA report as per requirement of
funding agency.
The scope of EIA includes the impacts resulting from pre
construction and operation phases of the proposed Metro
corridors ,Depots and sub-stations.
It also proposed to establish environmental baseline and
safeguard measures for protection of environment for
sustainable development during project cycles.
The scope of the study is framed as per European Investment
Bank (EIB) guidelines for Environmental and Social safeguard
policies.
APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY
The approach is to follow the sequence of steps adopted in an EIA study.
The basic concept is to ascertain the existing baseline conditions and assess the impacts
as a result of construction and operation of the project.
The changes likely to occur in different components of the environment viz. physical,
biological / ecological, environmental and socio-economic etc. have been studied,
analyzed and quantified, wherever possible.
The identification of parameters for data generation and impact assessment are
important. The baseline data for various parameters of physical (physiographic and
soils), ecological (forestry, fisheries and wildlife), and environmental pollution (air,
water, noise, and solid waste) are documented.
The impacts are assessed for various phases of project cycle namely:
· Impacts due to project location,
· Impacts due to project design,
· Impacts due to project construction, and
· Impacts due to project operation.
The impacts are categorized as negative and positive
