Revenge of the Comma
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….
The Republic was at war. For two thousand years, the
Jedi knights had kept the peace, but even their formidable
skills could not prevent the strife this time. Led by the
former Jedi, Count Dooku, the Separatist coalition broke
away from the Galactic Republic. War erupted during a
rescue mission to Geonosis, and many Jedi died. Jedi
Master Yoda arrived unexpectedly with the clone troops, in
time for the Republic to win that first battle –but too late to
stop the war.
Trapped by the Blue Shields
“How did this happen?” Obi-Wan grumbled. “We’re smarter than this.”
“Apparently not, Master,” Anakin said. “This is the oldest trap in the
book.” Obi-Wan glared at him, and Anakin shrugged. “Well, you’re the
leader. I was distracted.”
“Oh, so all of a sudden it’s my fault?”
“You’re the Master,” Anakin repeated. “I’m just a hero.”
Obi-Wan snorted. “I’m open to suggestions here.”
Behind the two Jedi, Chancellor Palpatine cleared his throat. “Why don’t
we let them take us to General Grievous? Perhaps with Count Dooku’s
demise, we can negotiate our release.”
General Grievous
As Grievous strode out of the ship, one of the droids
approached. “The planet is secure, sir,” it told him. “The
population is under control.”
Of course, they’re under control, Grievous thought. He didn’t
care about the locals. He was supposed to meet the Separatist
Council here.
One of his bodyguards approached. “There is a message on
the special communication channel,” it whispered.
Anakin Discovers the Truth!
Anakin felt a cold chill. Palpatine wasn’t a Jedi. “How do
you know the ways of the force?” “My mentor taught me
everything,” Palpatine replied calmly. “Even the nature of the
dark side.” “You know the dark side?” Anakin stopped short
as the sense of the words crashed down onto him. “You’re a
Sith Lord!” he said, and ignited his lightsaber.
Anakin Becomes Evil
“I will do whatever you ask,” Anakin told Palpatine. “Just
help me save Padme’s life.” I can’t live without her. I won’t
let her die.
Palpatine smiled and gestured. Anakin knelt before him
and the words came- the words he had used to pledge to the
jedi, but changed as he had changed. “I pledge myself to your
care,” he said. “To the ways of the Sith.”
“Anakin Skywalker, you are one with the Order of the
Sith Lords,” Palpatine replied. “Henceforth, you shall be
known as… Darth Vader.”
“Thank you, my master.”
The Emperor Commands Order 66
A small hologram of the first of the clone commanders sprang
up before him. “Yes, my Lord?” “The time has come, “
Darth Sidious said, savoring the words. After a thousand
years, the time for revenge has come at last. “Execute order
sixty-six.” “I understand, my Lord,” the clone commander
replied, and the image winked out.
Yoda vs. The Emperor
As the hologram faded Yoda slumped into the room. Before the
guards could react, he used the force to fling them against the
walls. They collapsed into motionless heaps as Yoda said to the
Sith Lord, “A new apprentice, you have, Chancellor. Or should I
call you ‘Emperor’?”
“Master Yoda.” The Emperor inclined his head. “You survived.”
“Surprised?”
“Your arrogance blinds you, Master Yoda,” Darth Sidious hissed.
“Now you will experience the true power of the dark side.” He
raised his arms and the Force pulsed as blue lightning blasted
Yoda across the room.
Obi-Wan vs. Anakin
“You turned her against me!” Anakin cried, flinging the
accusation against Obi-Wan.
“You have done that to yourself,” Obi-Wan told him. Here,
in Anakin’s presence, he could feel what the hologram
couldn’t show him: the roiling cloud of the dark side that
surrounded his former apprentice. It made the coming duty
a little- a very little- easier. “You’ve let the dark side twist
your point of view until now. . . now you are the very thing
you swore to destroy.”
“Don’t make me kill you,” Anakin said.
The Story of Darth Plagueis
Palpatine leaned back and said, “Darth Plagueis was a Dark
Lord of the Sith. He had such knowledge of the dark side that
he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew-
and then the apprentice killed him in his sleep.” Palpatine
smiled slightly. “It’s ironic that he could save others from
death, but not himself.”
The Death of the Separatist
Leaders
Palpatine smiled. “Excellent! Has my new apprentice, Darth
Vader arrived?”
“He landed a few moments ago,” Gunray replied.
“Good, good. He will take care of you.” The ambiguity of the
words pleased him. He reached for the controls to end the
transmission, and paused.
The transparent blue faces all turned to look at something
outside the range of the hologram pickup. Their expressions
changed from surprise to bewilderment, and then to fear.
Darth Sidious leaned forward in anticipation.
