Force and Types of Forces - 18th Sep 2019

This document provides an overview of a lesson on forces for students. The objectives are for students to classify different types of forces. The lesson introduces the concept of force and defines it. It then lists and describes five main types of forces: muscular force, mechanical force, gravitational force, magnetic force, and frictional force. Examples are given for each type of force. Later, students participate in guided practice by observing forces in a video and listing examples. For independent practice, students match examples to the correct type of force in a matching activity. The document closes by having students fill out the "learned" section of a KWL chart to summarize their learning.

DO NOW

Objectives

SWBAT classify
different types of
forces.
WHY?
KWL chart
Prepare a KWL chart in your notebooks and fill in the first
two things

1. What I already know?

2. What I want to know?
3. What I learned?
NORMs
Assessment
1.What do you think is a force with the
help of examples?
2. Give two examples of muscular force.
3. What are the different types of forces?
4. Which type of force acts when an
apple falls from a tree?
ESR
1. A force is the push or pull on an object with mass that
causes it to change its velocity. For example- While
running our body applies a force, a fan moves because
of mechanical force applied by a motor etc.
2. Lifting a weight in a gym and women carrying a bucket
of water
3. Types of forces- Muscular force, mechanical force,
gravitational force, magnetic force, frictional force
4. An apple falls from a tree because of gravitational
force acting on it.
Knowledge key points:
Classify, Force, Types of
forces

Skill key points:

Classify
Steps to build skills:
1. Look at the pictures and understand about the
forces in nature.
2. Understand different types of forces in nature.

3. Look for the real life examples of various types

of forces and start listing them in different types
of forces.
Values we will practice
Unity- you will work together in groups
to arrive at a common solution.
Respect – you will listen to the speaker
when the speaker says something.
Ways we will connect this back to
world and to ourselves:
SWBAT apply their learning to understand that the
weight lifted by a person in a gym, cooking food in
an oven, falling of a ball when it is thrown
upwards , rolling of a football in the ground and
nails sticking to a magnet are types of forces and
are different to each other.
Opening:
INM
FORCE- A force is the push or pull on
an object with mass that causes it to
change its velocity.
TYPES OF FORCES

1.MUSCULAR FORCE
2. MECHANICAL FORCE
3. GRAVITATIONAL FORCE
4. MAGNETIC FORCE
5. FRICTIONAL FORCE
1. MUSCULAR FORCE- The movement
that takes place with the help of bones
and muscles of our body. For example-
lifting weights in gym, carrying a
bucket of water etc.
2. MECHANICAL FORCE
The force applied by means of a
machine is called mechanical force.
For example- electric motor, sewing
machine etc.
3. GRAVITATIONAL FORCE
THE FORCE APPLIED BY THE EARTH TO
PULL OBJECTS TOWARDS ITSELF IS
CALLED GRAVITATIONAL FORCE.
4. MAGNETIC FORCE
The force exerted by a magnet is
called magnetic force.
5. FRICTIONAL FORCE
When two surfaces rub against each other
the force of friction comes into play.
For example- motion of a cycle in a ground,
running etc.
6. ELECTROSTATIC FORCE
The force produced by electrically
charged materials is called
electrostatic force.
For example- rubbing a plastic
comb against dry hair and
attracting pieces of paper.
Guided practice

What did you observe in the video?

In your groups mention the different types
of forces that you saw in the video?
Independent practice
Match the following:
S.NO GROUP A GROUP B

1 AN OX PULLING A CART MAGNETIC FORCE

2 LIFTING A HEAVY IRON OBJECT WITH A ELECTROSTATIC FORCE

CRANE

3 WEIGHING WITH A SPRING BALANCE MUSCULAR FORCE

4 APPLYING BRAKES TO A BICYCLE GRAVITATINAL FORCE

5 PICKING UP THE PIECES OF PAPER WITH A FRICTIONALFORCE

PLASTIC SCALE

6 DROPPING A STONE IN THE WATER FROM A MECHANICAL FORCE

HEIGHT OF 100 METER
Closing

Fill the KWL chart to write

what all you have learned today
How much have I learned today?
THANK YOU
