 The cry of pugad lawin ( sigaw ng


Pugad Lawin) is the beginning of the
Philippine revolution against the
Spanish empire.
WHAT CRY MEANS:

 CRY is translated from Spanish el gritolion


de rebellion - referred to the first clash
between the katipunero and the civil
guard . Cry could also refer to the tearing
up of community tax certificate (CEDULA)
in defiance of their allegiance to Spain.
WHAT DID CEDULAS SIGNIFY

 On august 23, 1896, andres bonifacio


and a number of katipuneros tore
their cedulas, signifying their protest
against Spain colonial rule.

declared rebellion against the Spanish colonial

took place in pugad lawin on august 23,
1896, based on pio valenzuela statement

Anders Bonifacio katipuneros assembled in pook
Kangkong from 22 to 26 august 1896, resolves
the question of where and when cedulas were
torn and when and where the initial
engagements between the Katipuneros and the
spanish troops took place.

 Bonifacio and his men were in Balintawak on
august 19. they left balintawak for kangkong on
august 21, and on the afternoon of august 22
they proceed to Pugad Lawin …. Years later , in
his memoirs published in English after world war
II, Valenzuela stated that the cry was actually
held in Pugad Lawin on Aug. 23, 1896.
WHY IS CALLED CRY OF
BALINTAWAK
 Returning to manila, the spanish
soldiers boasted that a great figth has
taken place at pasong tamo, and
that they had driven the rebels to the
interior. This was the origin of the
called cry of balintawak , which
neither happened on august 26 nor in
balintawak.
