INTRODUCTION

• AN INTERNSHIP IS A TRAINED AND SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE IN A PROFESSIONAL SETTING IN


WHICH THE STUDENT IS LEARNING AND GAINING ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE.
INTERNSHIP IS MEANT FOR INTRODUCING CANDIDATES EITHER FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME TO A
REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THEIR CAREER GOALS AND INTERESTS. INTERNSHIPS
CAN BE DONE DURING THE ACADEMIC SEMESTER AND OR SUMMER DEPENDING UPON THE
SPACED OUT CURRICULUM.
PURPOSE OF INTERSHIP

• 1. TO DEVELOP FACILITY WITH A RANGE OF DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS, INCLUDING: INTERVIEWS, CASE


HISTORY-TAKING, RISK ASSESSMENT.
• 2. TO DEVELOP FURTHER SKILLS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION, INCLUDING DIFFERENT KINDS
OF INTERVENTION, SHORT-TERM, GOAL-ORIENTED INDIVIDUAL, GROUP, EXPOSURE TO LONG-TERM
INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY, AND EXPOSURE TO PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY, CASE MANAGEMENT,
AND ADVOCACY.
• 3. TO DEVELOP FACILITY WITH A RANGE OF ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES, INCLUDING:
DEVELOPMENTAL TESTING , COGNITIVE TESTING, ACHIEVEMENT TESTING, ASSESSMENT OF
BEHAVIOR, EMOTIONAL FUNCTIONING, AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION.
